Hi Tnetters. I haven't posted anything for some time. I dug this item last Friday at an early to mid 1900s homesite, also a '44 wheatie and a NEW CLUB head stamp. My first thought was maybe part of the triggering mechanism from a firearm, but I really have no idea. It is not attracted to a magnet and might be crusty copper or brass. Thanks for looking and for any info.

Thanks Taz and A2. I think the mortise lock is a strong possibility...looking for pictures of the insides of one now. My son, a pretty good gunsmith, couldn't confirm the firearm angle.
