What is this?

I found this by the river today. It is broken. Anybody can help me figure out what it is.

It appeaars to be a chunk of Ceramic-Tile matrix/cement/grout, from a tile wall or perhaps floor. The imprint of four 90-degree-corner flat plates at right-angled to each other indicates it is not a natural rock formation.

Unless it is cast, in which case it may be the business end of a tamper or maybe a support pad?
