After a failed attempt to fight the frost yesterday, I decided to try a saltwater beach today hoping that a recent Nor’easter would have washed some low tones out of the sand. I had picked $0.71 in clad before getting a higher tone (31-32) on my equinox. Eight inches down in the black sand, this encrusted coin popped out. Im not sure what to make of it, nor how to proceed. In my limited experience vdi 31-32 seems too high for a large cent and too low for a silver half. Where the crust has fallen off, i can see what appears to be some lettering and ehat could be wings..a ribbon.. a “cap”
It is +/-31mm if i round down to compensate for the crust.
For you guys with saltwater experience...Does silver get encrusted like this or can I safely assume it is a large cent? Also, what should i do to get the crust off??
Thank for any advice
