What Might it be ???

KevFl. :; Thanks for the reply , But don't think it's got anything to do with darts , Cause it looks to old & it weights over 3 1/4 oz's ,

Just a guess. Is there a hole in the back part, opposite the point? Maybe it's one of those things they put on a string to determine vertical lines during barn building and other carpentry projects back in the old days before chalk lines and such? Kinda like a pendulum. It's way too big t be a dart tip at 2 & 1/2 inches long unless you are darting Rhinos, or something.

David-

Not that this is definitive, but found this picture of some old darts.

True_Metal - There is no hole in the back of it , I first thought that it looked like a plum-bob also but can't see a way that it could have been used for that ,

i know this isn't what it is but it looks like an old 3 ringer bullet that someone forgot to carve the top off

What you have there is called a "Flickerpicker" or more commonly known as a replacement beak for a woodpecker. Not many people know this but a standard beak is only good for 2, maybe 3 years, but with the add on "flickerpicker" the life of every Woody Woodpecker can be extended for decades, even centuries. Ahhhh science. Chris

It's a dart tip,old and heavy it may be,nonetheless it's still a dart tip.Darts have been around for hundreds of years, they played darts on the mayflower even. The all-metal barrel was patented in 1906.I would say yours pre-dates that.Nice Find!H.H. ;)

called them jarts!! with the flights on the back each dart was about 14 inches long. made from 1956-1978 then the whiney liberals cried them out of exhistance. seach jarts on ebay for an example.

Well you all are kind of right if you measure the Dim. you find it is the size of a bullet therefore it was not for darts but for shooting woodpeckers. HAVING MORE FUN THEN PEOPLE SQUASH.
