I saw this metal detector for sale but I have no idea what it is. The seller doesn't know a thing about it other than it uses 9v batteries. Can anyone tell me anything about it such as if it's an entry level detector or a higher end unit or better yet, it's make/model?

I know a guy that has one of these and he gets frustrated with it all the time. Although, having said that he has found a few good finds with it. Here is a link to a company over here that sells them, but in my opinion you would be better off getting an Ace 250. I know they are more expensive but you get what you pay for.

Thanks for all the info guys. I kinda figured it was a low end unit but I wasn't certain. The auction I saw it in just described it as a "Used Metal Detector". Occasionally I have found gems on Ebay due to screwed up auctions and being I have no experience at all with high end units, it could have been one for all I knew

Actually, I have three Ace 250's here. I don't get to use any of them as much as I'd like but I have to agree with you that they're pretty good machines.

I recognize that coil. Check http://www.treasure-cove.com I think that is a TC-9700. I had a TC-1023 that I bought for $80 and had a barrel of fun with it. I found about $65 in coin in two months, then sold it for $80.
You'll be able to break even with it pretty quick because it's so cheap. You can sell it used on Craigslist for most of what you paid due to the inflated MSRP at that site. So either if you decide you're not interested in the hobby, or you decide to get more serious later, you win.

I know that won't shut up the "Get a REAL detector." people. Most of them have never picked one up before they diss'ed it.

I couldn't tell if it was a Treasure Cove or a Famous Trails http://www.famoustrails.com/metaldetectors.htm#

That's an interesting link. They didn't even bother changing the model number of the 1023. It looks like they're trying to knock off both a Garrett (MD9400I) and a White's (MD9300). Of course there will be no interchangeable coils, but from a distance people would think you had good taste.

I have never seen that model/type of detector before, but would bet it is low end/possible off brand model....sell it and buy a tesoro, you'll never regret it.
