What pan would you recomend for a newb?

Welcome to the forum! :hello:I would for sure recommend the Garrett super gravity trap pan.....

That is a excellent choice by the way.

Thanks. Nice to meet ya.

welcome to the forum. I prefer the garret because of the 1/4' lip on the bottom edge. it gives an extra spot for the gold to collect in the corner versus the GPAA pan that goes right to the slope of the wall. some like the GPAA pan for its wide bottom. it's a good pan I own several but I like the garret.

Good Luck!

I bought the same pan in the kit and really like it. I've used another style since then and found the Garrett to be easier to use and retain gold with.

All are good ideas. One thing to do before you head out to gold country with your shiny new pan is to get that shine off of it. If its plastic that is, I'm not sure about the metal ones. Put some gravels in it or practice panning it to get the layer of oils from the manufacturer off. Help retain that gold!

Trinity is a great pan, also haven't had any problems with the larger Garret pans, one of the easiest I've found to use for beginners is the Fosickers finishing pan, I'm not great at getting really fine gold out of thick black sand with it, but for most stuff once you get the hang of it, you can pan really fast with no problem.

The Garret Super Sluice & Garret Gravity Trap pans are great. Hard to go wrong with them. I have a couple of Hex Pans & I also like them, although I haveonly had the opportunity to use them a couple of times.

Ordered the kit today. Found it on amazon Amazon.com: Gold Pan Kit: Home & Kitchen I couldn't get a better value in Chinatown I don't think. I'm Stoked. I hope I get a chance to try the super sluice and the trinity pans someday but to get an idea about where to set up my highbanker I am going to have to do some sample panning and I think this kit is the way to go. I like my classifier better though. You can shovel and rinse until you have a full bucket. I will also be able to set my cleanup sluice alongside my highbanker with a hose outlet and cleanup my cons right there on the stream-side or at home with the setup you see here.
