So yesterday, me and my buddy were chasing and cross cutting old stone walls out in the woods. We were probably 300 yards off the trail, when I see an obvious modification to the stone wall. I proceeded to head over towards it. Behind it I see a white 5 gallon bucket with a cover on it, half buried under some sticks and more rocks. My heart starts racin, cause I know this aint supposed to be here. I pull the cover off and to my surprise, a note and some film canisters... Its a friggn geocache. Anyone ever come across these things? I had to laugh, cause apparently there is someone out there who is a bigger geek than me. Other than some brass shells that was it for a 2 hr hunt.

Guilty as charged I sometimes geocache Greg

That is a good one! :violent1:

I've never done it, but, there is a web site that gives you directions on how to do it. I thought about it at one time, then came to the realization that it takes to much time

I haven't done geo-caching, but when out on a hunt I saw this
couple planting the "clues" for such a hunt.

Actually it looks like quite a fun deal.

Now as for feeling like a geek . . .
I'm out by an old ball field swinging the detector.
Nobody around for miles, so when I see this dude
coming towards me to the first base side, I feel a little
awkward, but we kinda nod to each other.
Then he passes me, goes to the garbage can
and starts pulling out the aluminum cans.

See, there ARE geeks even lower on the pecking order than us!
:D :D :D

i've found 4 of them while tectin... those guys have some awesome spots !!!

Someday GEEK persecution will end! :tard:

I found a geocache in a San Diego riparian canyon, wedged into the base of a hard-to-get-to old sycamore tree. On my way out, about 10 feet away, I found a very old bracelet (pictured), which I think was unrelated to the geocache, but who knows? - jim

That's not a bracelet. It's a watch fob & chain to hang on a vest. Very nice!

Haven't found a geocache (yet). A friend in CA is into it big time. Guess it;s a great way to get the family out on an adventure. Almost as good as metal detecting I tell him. ;-)

You know what you call a geek ten years after HS graduation? Boss!

This last winter some lost climbers found a Geocache on Mt. Hood
and were able to radio in their position for help as all geocaches
have exact Lat. and Long. positions.
I have been doing it for a couple years and it is fun.

Joe

I actually discovered two spots to detect by hunting geocaches. It's really fun!
