is this red jasper?
is it a scraper or a piece of junk?

hey steve,i think that is the peice that would be napped off to flute a point.in that case i belive you may have a nipple.yes old arrowheads have nipples.or,at least you have a piece that was taking off to thin a piece,my red point i posted is made of the same stuff. jamey
 
Looks like it sure could be a Jasper piece. The pictures don't permit a good examination, but it is possibly a preform. I don't believe it is a channel flake as jamey suggests.

it is flat on one side which is the top picture
the other side (bottom picture) is very humped like a turtle back
does this info help?
The indians used this kind of rock for knives,points,and drills etc.
the colors range from this red to greens and yellowish brown
 
i thought the gray stuff was some kind of mineral deposit after being flaked off and sitting in the ground so long,never thought about it being the outside or core of the rock,thanks steve and plehbah jamey
