I found this in a field here in SW Georgia where several nice points have come from. It appears to be made of limestone and is light for it size. Gamestone perhaps?

Could be a fossil of some kind, maybe of a Sponge or piece of Coral.

Can anyone help me with this image.webp

@ GaRebel I have never seen anything like that before.
@ Ohio its a rock.

It is a weird item for sure.

It reminds me of this shark vertebrate piece that Gator sent me. The side view of the two are really similar. The piece Gator gave me was a type of jewelry. Could yours be a pendant Jim?

We find those shark vertebrates here as well in the Flint River in Southwest Georgia. The ones that I have found or seen are polished by the water and feel more dense. My piece is made of what appears to be limestone and the dimples appear to drilled or scratched in. For what reason, I have no idea. Thats why I posted the picture.

I'd have to go with natural.. Mostly because the indents are of different diameters.
I don't think a person would change tools to make it.
Maybe it's a piece of ancient coral.
Either way I think it may be fossil of some kind.

Welcome to treasurenet.. I see you have posted this on more than one other thread started by someone else.
You just need to start your own thread with that object.

Ohio419,

Good to see another person come in and please post artifacts when you have a chance. You are new and learning. Gator is right, create a new thread when you have an item that you want to show off. It keeps from any confusion from occurring if several items are being discussed at the same time. You will want comments directed to your find alone. But, please feel free to comment on any of these threads, especially mine. We look forward to hearing what others have to say. I know that I do. Good luck and find some cool stuff to post!

Thanks for the input, It is one of those finds considering where I found it, that I was thinking "yes it is & no it aint". So put it to the test here.

Understood.. file it under Hmmm. For now.

I knew I had one of these around somewhere.
This is a common stone found on the beaches here.
Its called coquina and is part of a combination of sand sediment and worm reef layers from ancient seabeds.
I know you find some nice fossil shark teeth in your area and suspect your piece is related to that.

This item is different in hand than what the pictures show. Really dry and course. The holes along the side are symmetrical and are about the same size. The piece does not show any signs of having fossils in it.

BTW, Not a big deal, I was working in my artifact room today moving some stuff around and came across it. Thought that I would post it to see what was said.

Next time there is a show in your area you should take it and see what people from the area think of it. Thats what I do, get many different answers and hope 2 or 3 are the same.

IMHO, I just can't think of any purpose for that little guy- all those dimples/holes, various sizes and shapes... I still think it's a sponge or coral fossil of some sort. I mean, when you think about it, it's got to serve some purpose, no? Too odd for a game piece, not an adornment, not a fire-bow base/holder, too small for a 'paint palette'... I just can't think what it would be if not geo... But I'd pick it up and keep it somewhere. Just 'cause... ;)

Thanks for the replies. I put back where I had it and it can sit for more years or until I find it again in the box.
