I am just going to throw this out there and see what everyone's reply's are.
Question: What's happened to our country?

Easy, The majority of Our elected officials (both dem's and repub's) no longer feel the need to serve the people.

The ptbs decided that profits are more important than people. That's an easy one. As I said before, money has no allegiance to country. The façade of freedom is quickly fading as it (money)moves to what were once third world countries in order to keep its constant need for growth for a few. If you spend some time reading you'll find that the early industrial magnates didn't give a r..a.. about the workers but definitely used the government to quell any threat to their growth. They are also the ones that came up with the catchy slogans like "freedom isn't free". Of course they expect someone other than themselves to pay the cost.

Happy Fourth of July. Remember, if the British had won the Revolutionary War, we'd all be speaking English.:occasion14:

In a word, Greed.

Of course they expect someone other than themselves to pay the cost.

The expectation is more than paying the expenses - it's the entitlement of shoveling tax money into their pockets.

The majority in our country now is made up of members of the recipient class. These people vote for what they believe to be in their best interest, even if its obviously not in the long term best interest of the country. This is why few care about the governments out of control deficit spending. Bad things are going to happen down the road but for now, it's all good.

there are a lot of that "recipient" class that had factory jobs until someone decided to move those jobs elsewhere. What really cracks me up is the fact that those people that moved the jobs elsewhere managed to convince other workers that they shouldn't be worthy of living wages or healthcare benefits.

Would someone tell me what is in the best long term interest of the country aside from constant war on this and war on that?

In a sentence: Evolution of the species.
In a word: Evolution.

Globalization and the internet. Think about it.
