whats the best way to remove silicone

I bought a like new used troy X-3 but the coil has coil cover siliconed to coil.
I don't like this whats the best way to remove the silicon a return coil and cover to original status?

Silicone dries a lot like rubber so, if you can just get a grip of little pieces at a time and gently pull them off enough to free the cover then leave it alone so you don't damage the coil itself. Covers were meant to be removed for cleaning to keep the coil bottoms protected. HHHH

That is the only way I know to remove it. If your detector is out of warranty you can coat the bottom of the coil with Marine Epoxy to replace the use of a cover. Never have to clean the coil cover again.

Acetone to remove? I remember a long time ago, when I was cleaning silicon from plumbing fixtures, acetone was the only thing that would work.... One day, this guy got a Styrofoam cup and poured a little acetone in it, and proceeded to walk inside toward the plumbing... Needless to say, the acetone or the cup wasn't present when here arrived (acetone eats Styrofoam). He was the but of a joke for a whole year.

Are they composites, or what?

I ask because you cannot use Silicone-Be-Gone on nylon. (its supposed to be safe on everything else)

Hello Mrs.Oroblaco! I believe most coil "shells" are abs plastic and epoxy.. ..HHHH

Coils can be melted with PVC glue, at least the 1974 Fisher 440 that I owned. The coil was
broken where it attached to the lower rod and it was suggested in a magazine, (can't remember
which) that to fix it get some PVC and grind it into samll pieces and make a paste with that and
PVC glue. It all melted together and the repair is still holding. So I presume that that coil was
PVC. I also know that some coils are epoxy filled.
