What's your best guess?

I found this on the side of a dirt road. Some parts of it look like petrified wood, other parts look like maybe just some metamorphic rock, either way there is a good quartz vein running right through it. What do you think it is?

Yeah. Metamorphic. Could be slate/schist or some metamorphic volcanite. Hard to tell.
