What's your process - cradle to grave
Okay... so I have finally gotten a bunch of pay dirt sitting around the house. Well, really it's just a few 5 gallon buckets of raw pay dirt. There is a bunch of larger rocks, gem stones, etc.. Lastnight being so cold outside I decided to move the operation in the garage. I have a good work area now, but I lack the larger tools like a wash plant, trommel, even a sluice large enough to wash the larger cobble rocks off with. So I am employing my 7yr old to help me out.
However, I tend to find myself getting off track easily with her helping out. But most importantly, I need a streamlined process on how to get this done quicker.
How do you guys recommend washing the material? It's freezing outside so I need to be able to do this indoors. I was thinking it's going to be more labor intensive, but here's what I was thinking.
1) Classify starting with 1/4", taking the larger stones an then hand panning them (to wash them), and then dumping those washed stones into a discard/tailings bucket.
2) Classify the dirt to 1/8" and repeating the process. I do NOT expect anything to be found until I get to -30 mesh as most of the gold is flakes larger than -30 mesh. I have yet to find anything smaller than -30.
3) Classify -30 and -50 and running those cons in the blue bowl.
I also lack the ability to classify the material with a running source of water, so I am classifying this damp material 'dry' and it seems to be much more difficult as it sticks more than anything!
Any ideas on how to better streamline this operation. Remember, I am trying to make this enjoyable for my 7yr old too! She can spot gold in the pan much quicker than I can, that's for sure!
Thanks!
