When dumping coins.

Say you buy a $250 dime box. You pull out so many from it, do you replace what you find so when you dump it comes out to a nice even # or not? I have a change jar full of searched clad, from the store and what not. So if I pull out 5 coins then I'll just replace them.

If you dont replace, that is reverse stealing, lying when you turn it in saying there is 250, when there is just 249.50.

Are they going to catch it, probably not. But if they do...they might let it slide once. They might keep an eye on all your following dumps to see if they are all short....then there goes your relationship as a trustworthy customer.

Depends on the bank, my dump banks could care less as they I can drop $1000 in rerolled without them batting an eye because its gone to merchants within 2 weeks.

My advice, just replace it. Do the right thing.

If you re-roll it, replace it. You know how it feels to get jipped with a penny in your dime roll. If you are going to dump it in a coin counter, I usually won't replace it until I cash out my ticket and then I usually have spare change in my pocket so I can make it an even dollar amount. To me kinda defeats to purpose to put 999.99 in the coin counter and then get 99 cents back from the teller. I just add a penny to even it up.

Wow, I think the previous two posters totally missed what the OP was asking. he wasn't inferring that he was going to steal /short change anyone, he just wanted to know if you had $250 in dimes and found 5 keepers whether you put $0.50 back in so when put through the coin counter it comes up $250, or if you leave it as is and it comes out at $249.50.

As for me I replace my keepers. Why? I have no idea

I guess "dumping" means something different to each person. Quite frankly dumping to me, means taking a large s#&! after I eat pizza/wings halfway gorging myself to death.

There was not one reference to a coin counter, why are you so surprised that someone misinterpreted the question?

if you use the coin bags your account number is on there anyways, so I don't worry about being off. I always replace what I cull just to keep a good reputation but if you're off no big deal they just debit your account.

I don't replace. I just throw all the clad into a coin counter. People are different though, if it makes you feel better, by all means replace them.

Yeah my intention was do you replace it so you get the same amount back. I'm only working with $250 so definitely would want it all back so I replace.

Off-topic - but how many old-timers remember when the banks were short on change in the early 70's? They were so desperate for circulating coinage that they would accept short rolls and still credit you with the full amount. 40-45 cents and you were credited with 50 cents.

The reason how this pertains to the OP is that banks allow for occasional discrepancies while crediting you with the full amount. If it happens on a consistent basis, then they will reconcile the count with your account.

As my coins go through a coin counter I don't replace. If I had to reroll, I would replace.

I only search halves, and I always replace them. When I'm at the coin counter I keep an extra 50cents on me just in case I missed one or what-have-you.
