Just gives you that extra boost knowing you're not going home skunked.

Tonight the first target dug turned out to be a beautiful Barber Dime.

Later got a couple Indian Head Pennies.

One pretty nice. The other not so much.

And there were some wheatbacks in the mix.

Love this brass safety pin. Not sure what the appendage is. Before my time.

Also got a copper band. Not sure I've ever gotten one with a pattern before.

Today's finds...

1899 Barber Dime
(2) IHPs 1901, 1906
(3) Wheatback cents 1936, 1947, 1956
Brass Safety Pin
Copper band with pattern

Hitting a great target right off the back is a fantastic feeling ( and a relief). A silver coin from the 1800's makes it that much better. Congrats.

That 1899 has some serious detail. Going to get it graded?
While it's a very nice find and in good condition, it's not a key date coin, so not a lot of value even in it's condition, it would cost WAY more than the coin is worth to have it graded!

That and there is some tarnish on it that is a bit hard to see in the picture. The environmental damage alone would kill a fair amount of the value, if it had any.

Check out these auction records though
All of those auction results are for coins in a much higher grade (almost the highest grade you can have on a coin, which is MS68) than the coin in this topic would achieve, at best this coin would only be worth $50 to $100 if you're lucky if it were graded, it's possible the grading companies would not even grade it because it was recovered from the ground and just label it "Environmental Damage", in which case it would only be worth $10 to maybe $20, it would cost at least $40 to have it graded even if they refuse to give it a grade.

yes I am still a student of the knowledge here. Coin grading is a rabbit hole, mixed with a mole hole.
