While you are waiting for someone pipes in - I searched

and found some interesting threads relating to buying gold, etc...

To learn-

1- The feel- friends, family, local pawns, jewelers, antique shops, flea markets, etc..

2- The marks- too numerous... the web and books.

3- Keep for a rainy day- garage sales and see below.

The only place I buy gold and silver are garage sales, flea markets and occasionally junk silver coins at the local coin show. I haven't paid retail for gold since it was about 700 an ounce.
I did buy some silver rounds through here once- GOLD BULLION COINS | American Silver Eagles | BUY SILVER BULLION ROUNDS & BARS

I agree with diggum, even though the price is trending downward it is still too expensive to pay retail, for me anyways! Good luck!..............Scott.

Look at scrap gold on eBay. Then figure out the scrap price on a scrap gold calculator. Buy as close to spot or less. Although I get most of mine through yard sales.

+1 for provident metals

They buy metals as well.
I sold 3 englehard bars and locked it in at a good price. The price of silver dropped a few dollars (per ounce) while the bars were en route.
They honored the locked in price and sent a check right away.

Even though the PM prices are dropping, LOTS of people are paying a premium above current prices just to get the metals in their hands. I keep hearing that PM's are hard to find, even if you have the money.

I found 98 grams of Sterling Silver, which is 3.15 ozt of pure silver at garage sales this weekend. I spent $13, total.

I just keep recharging the batterys in the old metal detector. Don't have a scale. Havent melted it all down yet. But will just keep swinging.

Thanks everyone, need to get detecting again, ahhh the possibilities here in Oregon..

Look in the yellow pages, for gold sellers,or try a major bank, but now is not the time to buy gold,it's going down in value.
