Where do fire hydrants come from?

Jeff and I were out driving in the country looking for places to detect and we came across this Baby Fire Hydrant behind an auto garage.

I guess he will grow up to be a full size hydrant some day!!

Having been in the water industry for nigh on 38 years, the answer to your question is: If I were to tell you I'd have to banish you to shovel grit forever at our Central Wastewater Plant.

Seriously, that's an interesting little hydrant you pictured there.

They still make them.
They use them in mobile home parks, and culdesacs in older subdivisions.
They usually are on a 4" line, cant really get enough water out of them to supply a pumper truck.
They are used to flush out the water lines to clear them of rust and sediment.
