How far are you guys out in the water when you find all your treasures?? We went to the beach today and found nothing in the water. We didn't discriminate. Maybe it was just a hard hit beach,

Thanks,
Russ & Cindy

I hunt from my ankles to my chest sometimes, but I perfer ankle to waist. They claim that most adults are normally in waist deep water on an average, but I would say hunt it all, targets will come.....

Test the water and move in and out and keep track of where you are hitting the most targets.

I agree with Bill and I have some questions for you Russ & Cindy - how long are you hunting a day and
where If you don't mind - Cavedweller

I hunt from shoreline edge to neck deep while wading, but the majority of finds are found from about knee deep to waist, where most adults play. Women with young children are in very shallow water. You just need to get the coil over it. If the beach your hunting is up north, the area might not be filled yet with lost items and was hunted hard during the fall.

Ditto what Sandman said, just Slooow down, make sure the coil is flat to the bottom and really listen. Sounds mundane, but I always tell myself this. Sometimes there's just alot of sand, and overnight there's stuff everywhere.. Keep at it and it will come, from ankle deep to snorkle deep. Good luck.

Some really good advise from those above.....

I don't have the experience of some, but I try and I have been lucky and made a few good finds. I hunt all areas of the beaches, dry to chest deep, depending on the conditions, the majority of my good finds at the beach have been found ankle to waist deep.

I go slow, I usually don't look at the spot I'm detecting, but rather I look off and try to concentrate on the tones I'm hearing, listening for soft tones and that low growl that tells me g-o-l-d-;D

Good luck and good hunting............

Well, I hunt the North and never forget the deep, chest high maybe shoulder. How ever you will need a weight belt with a quick release (of course) because your too buoyant at that point and will be diffcult to dig.

I do this after midnight when the lake is calm and no life guards.

I enjoy seeing the swimmers try to sneak pass the life guards in the boats, their arms swinging showing off in front of the girls.

That's what I'm talking about and if your tall you have another lane to hunt.

Good question. I have often wondered myself. One day I will go out and not get one hit in the water and the next.... I find several things. I only hunt up to my chest. I generally walk out to about that deep and then follow the shoreline, turn around and work myself back till I get back to shore. I definitely need to slow down and have to keep telling myself that it is not a race.... SLOW DOWN MUMSZIE! ::)

Funny thing mentioning about tall guys being able to get out a little deeper. I know a guy that straps two milk crates on his feet to get out deeper and still breath thought he doesn't use a weight belt. I've snorkeled this area and some of the jewelry is laying on top of the sand as it doesn't get stepped on out there. Using hookah out there is worth the trouble of getting it to the water............sometimes. However even if nothing is found it is better than cutting the dang grass, again. :D

OH MY Sandman how did you know I didn't go hunting this morning because I had to cut the darn grass. It was getting knee high and I just couldn't ignore it any longer. All the while I was wishing I was knee deep in water and moving slowly. **sigh** ::)
