I'm not fond of drop ship places and I believe a lot of online stuff is that way. I'm looking to buy a Whites DFX and was wondering a good source. All my local distributors are selling at straight retail.

When I do a search I get KellyCo but their page looks like one of those volume NY Camera stores. ;)

Is KellyCo a reasonable place to buy from? Are there better options? I'm on the West Coast so shipping might be much cheaper if I deal with someone on the West Coast; not sure.

Suggestions?

I'd personally suggest, along with a TON of other people from these forums, you look into Tony's (TonyinCT) personal MDing store!!!
Here's the link...

He's not only a great guy who is personable and down to earth, but he's always on our forums and will help you with any questions and issues you might have. He's a great straight-shot guy to deal with and buy from. If you dare, you can ask of other people's opinions about him, but then this thread with grow HUGE with people saying good things about him!!! ;D

Yes, Kellyco is a honest dealer and I would buy from them again, same with metaldetectors dot com. If you want the personal touch I hear Tony is a great dealer too.

Ron @ Dixie Metal Detectors is also a great guy to deal with

I put in my own good word for Tony. As mentioned before he is always willing to help others and answer any questions you may have. A few weeks ago I was down in Florida and realized I was missing a part for my BeachHunter ID and Tony shipped it over night to me so I would not miss any hunting time. Now I don't know any other dealer who would be so kind and able to deliver such fast service.

I got my DFX from Kellyco and they sell metal detectors. Everyone talks about the learning curve on the DFX, but after you learn them they all become options. What ever detector you decide on, take a look at the Sunray probes to go along with it, makes digging a lot easier. As for service or advice, White's is the greatest company to deal with, as anyone who ever had a problem will agree.

Kellyco advertises the most and are a large shipper without much support. Many won't buy from them again, myself included.
Check your yellow pages for a local dealer where you can walk in and play with them and get first hand answers.

Tony is a first rate dealer that has helped many here with purchases and questions on operations of their machines.

Learning the DFX isn't hard at all if you use it some and then experiment with features. Now the Explorer SE or II requires some learning curve, but not much if you can set the time on your DVD/VCR.

Stay away from Ebay as many are starting to have trouble with the detectors.

If you can find a local dealer that knows his stuff, and has decent prices, that's the way to go. I don't have one near me, so I ordered through Dallas http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,85104.0.html

He's awesome to deal with, and as far as I know, is the only Whites dealer that is a sponsor of treasure net forum. I got my M-6 from him, and he has been great about answering my questions both before and after the sale.

End of commercial! ;D

I reached them earlier today and got an initial price for the DFX. I tried calling back several times and all I could get was an answering machine, during business hours. Not tickled with businesses that don't answer their phones and I don't talk to machines. At least, not when I haven't been drinking. ;D

This was all before I posted the question here. Because of the suggestion, I called Tony and he answered the phone. He was very helpful and I got a lower price, without even mentioning that I called KellyCo. I'm sure if I called back, they (KellyCo) would have beat the price but Tony was there to answer the phone. ;D So, I placed my order with Tony.

My DFX will be here Friday.

I'm going to show my wife how useful it is by telling her to go find her gold ring that I buried in the garden. (Just kidding) :D

Exactly my scenario this past Friday ! Nice fella, knows his stuff - reputation is everything, sold ! DFX be here soon ;D

Have fun with yours, Im sure gonna !

Glad to hear you were able to find business with Tony... ;D He really is a great guy and will continue to be around here on T-Net for years to come, I'm sure. Plus I just find it awesome to help out the smaller businesses, opposed to larger ones. Though Tony might be be called the "little guy" in that last context, he's far from it with a HUGE heart to help out all us THer's!! Good deal though... let us all know how your detector works and how your dealings go with Tony... :)

why is there no prices listed for white's machines on tonys website?

I thinks that's because dealers can't advertise below whites suggest retail price. But they can sell a machine below that price. Even on the Kellyco web you need to call to get the lowest price and any specials they offer. I've never had a problem getting them on the telephone but that's me.

I have dealt with and recommend Detection.com,Southern treasures,Bonnie blue detectors and Ron at Dixie. All good people with great service and prices.

Whites dealers are not allowed to sell out of there territory. I have a friend who is a whites dealer and he will give you a great deal but you have to buy it in his territory.
