When the larger flakes catch the current, they tend to "surf" your riffles...

Yup, well those lil babies were hangin 10 right out of my box! Lol

Eliminate surfing by getting a drop riffle sluice!

Kevin thanks for the idea.. Can you post a pic of your sluice box?

Also, do u know where Cuchara is in Colorado? I don't really. My friend has a cabin there and really wants to take me there so I can show him how to prospect. I told him I have no idea where gold is in CO and have no idea where Cuchara is..

Thanks!

My sluice is just an angus Mackirk Expedition model. Other drop riffles include the wolf trap and the Le Trap...and the one you make by cutting slots in the 2x6 wood bottom of a sluice you make I suppose.

There is lots of gold in CO but it is limited to certain areas referred to here as " the mineral belt ". Cuchara is a cute little town in south central CO. It is not in the mineral belt but a two hour drive west or northwest would get you to gold. I'd you look on the BLM site for the canon city office you can learn about Cache Creek and Point Bar ... Both are public areas where recreational prospecting is allowed, no power equipment though.
