The PI Pro has the HH beat every which way..........

Hey findit,

I have been using the Whites PI Pro for about a year.

1. It detects very small items
2. It detects very deep, sometimes deeper than you can dig
3. There is no difference in tone to help you with ID or depth. If you have a beer can at 18 inches, it will sound like a dime at 3.
4. In the surf, when the waves come in, you get lots of feedback. You can tell the difference between a wave and a target, but it does slow you down, causing you to re-scan sometimes if you are not sure.

Good News, it is a very well built heavy duty machine. I have found some larger items at 18 inches plus. I have found pennies at around 10 inches. I have also had to use the probe to find a staple on some occasions. I can't believe it detects that. I have taken it diving and it seems to work just great under water.

I have to disagree with Sandman in that the Pro has the HH beat in EVERY way. The HH is lighter, has a frequency control knob so you can tune it to the conditions, has a volume control and it has options for both 8 and 11 inch coils.

It is a slower swing speed machine, but there are advantages to the HH....it's not outclassed by any means and I have used both ( and still have the HH with both coils).

I have the HH PI. Where do I start? On the plus side it is EXTREMELY light to swing, but that doesnt help underwater. It has good depth and an adjustable frequency. Coil is waterproof. It finds gold as well as tiny fishhooks pieces. Very DEEP on large items. No problem in saltwater. Headphones are comfortable considering the extra weight of the batteries and electronics. 3 simple controls: Volume, Tuner and Frequency.

The bad news is that most of the older headphone cups are not waterproof and never will be. They also pop open too easily. The O-rings have been upgraded about 2 years ago. I think its now rated waterproof in up to 6 feet of water. (should be about 4 feet inmho) My unit falses at the slightest twitch on the higher frequencies. I am trying to tighten the shaft at this time. Must work slow. Flooded first time under in the surf. Been back to the factory 2x and still not right, headphones NOT waterproof but it works, and I use it on the beach, or in the surf, as long as I keep my headphones above the waterline and work in a straight line, slowly. Cannot change coils on the older units.
