Until today I've only found broken ones. Granted most of the ones I come across are a bit older but this one will do just fine. I'm no expert but I believe that finish is late 1800's

Doesn't look old to me at all, if it were old and found along the beach I would expect alot of wear from the sand...

I know a little bit about glass and I'm just going by the lack of wear I see in your pics. The bottle is not pontiled, it just has a high kickup, and that lip is tooled not applied. I get the feeling you know very little about old glass except for terms you've read about in online forums like this, if anyone should be LOLing it's us about you and your 1800's bottle, I'm not cranky just being honest...

Your right.... most everything I hunt and collect is 500-5000 yrs.

Yeah its not too old.. not pontiled and definitly not 1800s or early 1900s

So how do you date what then would be a cup molded base with a sheared and tooled finish on what appears to be identical to this 1850-1890 Champaign?

Well, now the bottle collectors here have been introduced to 'Gboy'. <chuckle>

Gboy's wine bottle is almost certainly a 20th century champagne bottle. It was NOT made using a cup mold. It does NOT seem to have a sheared and tooled lip finish. It does seem to be a machine-made bottle.

Here's a thread where we can review what we know about wine bottles:

Hello Harry. How does that look machine made?

I think you mean "You're", that aside all I did was inform you that the bottle wasn't as old as you thought, for some reason you took that as a personal attack and started one of your own. I'm happy for you and all the ancient finds you do make, you have some great posts and you find some very cool things, I hope you continue to do so. I probably don't know 10% of what Harry knows, but I have handled and researched alot of glass in the last 4 years and I was giving you my my opinion based on what I do know. I'm sorry you didn't like hearing the truth, I won't be commenting on your posts in the future, this way I don't hurt your fragile psyche....

That is definitly machine made. If it was tooled it would be crude. I just dug one from a 1910's - 1920's layer a few days ago. Still a nice piece, but not 19th century.
