Why do you CRH?

I put "Don't have any extra cash for silver, this is my way of acquiring." But I don't only CRH for silver. I love finding Indian Heads, Wheats, Buffalo Nickels, etc, etc.....

I would hope no one who is unemployed takes part in CRH solely to make extra cash. If you do, you will be quickly disappointed. Unless of course if you are too young to work, retired or disabled.

Although I have only searched one $500 box myself, I would tend to agree. Looks like it would be tough to support ones self on CRH alone. I could see someone doing it as a part-time job ...like a college student....or to supplement income from their full time position though.

CRHing keeps me out of the Bars.
Banks are great places to meet chicks.
I have done enough "Honey-Do's" for 2 lifetimes.
Banks are great places to try out new disguises.
I am one sick puppy.
Cheers and many glorious days of CRHing, Jim

I am a treasure seeker. I get a thrill out of finding something that is worth more than I paid for it. Or just finding something period. I do not want to go pay big money for coins if I can find them at face value. I could go buy all the silver i want and I probably have more silver than I ever thought I wanted but I like finding it. I enjoy showing you guys what I found if it is something special. It just would not be fun without you guys to share it with.

I'm with Jim- keeps ME out of trouble.
On the other side of the coin- last July I had been living paycheck to paycheck, pi$$ing my money away on whatever I fancied. Since then I have come to respect my "money" more cause I have commitments to buy these boxes every week till I tell them to stop ordering. Thanks to some silver sales and more frugal living I went from $100 in my pocket last July to $5K now. So this has been the best savings plan I have ever been on. Actually I just like to give the tellers candy- hasn't got ME anywhere yet haha. HH Mark

LOL.....Jim, your a nut. Your always good for a laugh....keep it up!

I'm right there with ME_CO. CRH put my money into perspective, and now I save more to CRH more. Never had this much money in the bank before :D Plus I like to find the old coins. Found my first Merc a couple of days ago and still get a thrill looking at it.

Sure I could buy many of the same coins and spend a lot less time (and money depending on the coin), but I also like the thrill of the hunt. For example, I find more satisfaction finding a wheat penny (even a common one) in circulation than I do buying a bag of wheat pennies at a coin show and hoping to find a few good ones.

Also, the goals of my collection are such that I eventually will need a fairly large number of coins and paying more than face just doesn't make sense for most of them. I will occasionally buy coins, but typically just bargain hunting or filling hard to fill holes that I will probably never find.

I like the hunt. It's fun.
I can afford to buy a piece of silver every now and then, but not what I'd like to have. I also want to have some non-bullion stuff around and this is a neat way to collect it on the cheap.
I'm also technically unemployed so I have the time to wander around to different banks.

The Thrill of the Chase baby.
I work with gold and silver on a daily basis and I never get sick of the stuff. For me, weather its finding that little silver coin in a roll or a whole pile of them, dosnt matter, anything found is fun.

Same goes for metal detecting,
and as well as the prospecting. Any gold found is a good thing.

Same with Gems, weather is gem grade Garnet, Peridot, Sapphires, Kyanite, Iolite, Chrome Diopside and I hope soon Diamond. Finding one of the suckers is great, finding a whole pile of it and or a new location is awesome!
I am fortunate enough to live in an area where all these treasures are just a couple hour drive away. And some of the discoveries are virgin and only been found in the last couple years.

I guess all I can say is. Nothing beats a hobby that pay for its self...but better than that, nothing beats a hobby that is better odds than the lottery.

Just the fact that one Coin found CRH could be worth over a grand to ten grand or more for face value.
Or the fact that just a few hours of digging in a stream can get a pocket with over 20k in gold nuggets and dust.
Or the fact that a few hours digging in a stream couple yield a diamond worth 1k to 200k in one afternoon.

All of the above are things that have happened, but they never happened for someone that was not looking, and thats the important part.

I never imagined that I could partially fulfill my gold demand needs for my jewelery by finding some of it for basically free.
Never thought I could fulfill my silver needs for face value of coin. Nor the fact that I could pay a couple months mortgage with what I found in a couple months.
Nor did I ever think that I could find and offer gems I found in my own jewelery, amazing that I have made more $ hobby hunting rocks and gems than I have ever found in gold. For those who know there geology and can find a gem pocket, we are not talking about a couple stones, but thousands of carats worth in one little hole. Amazing how many must have walked over it before LOL

But anyway, I think for most on here its the thrill of the hunt. Quite a few of the people on here and who read this dont need to CHR for money. It does however add nicely to the whole portfolio and its fun. Just because you never know whats going to pop up next.

Why,

I love it and enjoy it. Reason I search Halfs is I will use all my silver coins as trader materil to buy expensive stuff I cant to finish on my collection on coins.

Example I want an 1909 s.v.d. penny that cost 700 to 1500 bucks for that penny. I dont want pay that for it and its money that tossed down the drain if I did I think. I can take 7 or 15 rolls worth silver coins thats 70 to 150 face and trade it with an dealer to get those expensive key date coins. So more silver coins I find in those half dollar boxs at face value will pay for those high stupid inflated priced coins to add to my collection of coins. That same coin if I paid 700 to 1500 for it would be loss big time since an coin dealer would rip you off if you sold it or whatever. With silver halfs I find it onley cost 70 to 150 bucks for it. You get the idea.

Since I am short sometimes on finding silver in Fedboxs. I started filling whitmans with clean 1964 thru 2001 half dollars to sell on ebay later after I build 20 sets totol all at face value like I trying do. I built 6 sets totol and I am working on filling sets 7,8, 9, sets on those. I may add the 1987 and 1970d with 2002 thru 2007 if I can good deals on those. I dont know yet on those. I cant sell 71 thru 2001 clads on ebay. It not worth it but completed sets its worth it I learned. 20 sets sold at 150 each is 3000 dollars I can buy more fedboxs of halfs.

I love coin roll hunting and large scale set building.

I started CRH during the winter when I couldn't MD and have had a ball. Doing about 4 boxes a week now plus buying loose coins. If I can find 10 40%ers a month, I can earn as much as my co-worker who has 10k in mutual funds. My only investment is the silver coins I find. I use the same $500.00 over and over again. With 7 kids there's not much money left for investments each month.

I don't know the best answer to the poll, but I do it because I find it relaxing. I sit in front of the TV and take my time going through the coins. I look for more than silver, since I do nickels and cents. I've been doing this since 1975 and I dread the day that I have to stop. I've seen some of the posts on here where people are not happy when they don't find anything. If you are just into it for profit, you will be disappointed. To me, the fun is in the hunt. I don't always find something when I go out with the metal detector, but it's the getting out that's the fun part. Anything I find, be it CRH or metal detecting, is icing on the cake.

I just don't like skunk boxes because my husband will say... See I told you it was not worth your time.
Even when I find a bunch of silver in a box he says.... OOOOOHHHH are we rich yet can I retire now. Makes me want to just throw the whole box at him.
