Why would eBay rule for the buyer?

Just trying to get the feedback removed. Never ended up to getting around to is issuing that refund anyway. They sent me another crappy message telling me I took the rude of the year award lol. So ill make here wait. Now that I know about the trace the post office can put in it I will press harder there. My po is very unhelpful, their help is call another office who says call another office. Also to find out the origin place had a massive investigation into it last year for this very problem, lost packages. So ill go down Monday and talk to someone in person. Just hard working first never know when you'll get out. Thanks again everyone.

The new ratings system sucks for anyone who sells fewer that 500 items in a year and gets hits by the same stuff diggumup mentioned. I was a Top Rated Seller up until November when the defects took effect. I had at least 3 returns where folks "changed their minds" about purchases and asked to return the items. I had 2 where buyers did not know how to send a cancel request after "mistakenly" purchasing my items. I had one item break during shipping, and a watch that stopped working after the buyer owned it for 3 weeks. Those defects amounted to more than 3% of my total transactions last year. My rating is now Below Standard and each month my selling limit has been DECREASED. I can now only list 20 items or $2000.00 per month until my defect rate is reduced. Trouble is...I need to sell at least 30 items to get my rate up! And next month, my selling limits will be reduced further! I made the mistake of telling folks to return the items and track it for "both of our protection" through the eBay system. My only recourse would be to simply start over with an entirely new eBay account.

I have only just started using ebay, and have got a couple of things on their way to me, but after reading all of the above, I am thinking maybe its not such a good idea. Who else would you recommend to use for buying online?

Absolutely nothing wrong with buying on eBay. As long as you pay with Paypal & go through the eBay system if you have an issue you are covered. If you read the description & look carefully at the pictures you shouldn't have an issue unless the shipping provider screws up. If they do it's the sellers responsibility to make things right & eBay will make sure they do.

Lots of people have "issues" they bring on themselves. Buying an item from sellers who provide crap and/or inadequate pictures can be a way to get a bargain from an unorganized sellers. It's also a good way to get cheated by an unscrupulous seller. Some sellers jack up shipping/handling prices to guarantee a profit margin. If you are comfortable with the total price that's fine, but it's not a seller problem if you think shipping is too high. Between common sense & eBay's policies it's pretty hard to get screwed.

I gotta agree with jerseyben on this one. Totally against eBay policy & therefore irrelevant. In addition, FOB may be used a lot in business transactions but it's not something you see much of in retail.

I never really thought about it but if eBay forbids it it is a moot point. And while I haven't looked it up I'm sure you are right about retail.

Checked on the package tracking today. It will be delivered tomorrow just like I told the lady it would be another week. I've had items take this long before and the buyer is normally understanding. Oh we'll ill get the case rule and will get feedback removed and my money unlocked and the buyer their package. Wish people would just listen and be a little patient lol. Thanks again everyone.

Yeah, I lost my TRS due to "buyer defects" and it really burned me out. When your defect rate is beyond your control, then it's really hard to care about that defect rate. I used to try so hard to give great customer service, but now I find it hard to care that much.

That's exactly what's wrong with the defect system. In many situations you are awarded the defect when an issue comes up instead of waiting to see if your customer service skills solve the problem. Totally takes away the incentive to fix the problem when you have been punished already.

First, can someone explain to me what FOB is?
Second, I have a defect Ebay refuses to remove. They said at first they would, and back in Dec when I complained again, they said it was too long. In July, I sold a guy a tiny tie tack. I always send out a free gift. The gift and the pin were in two tiny zip lock baggies. I get online, and there is a message from ebay that INAD. Then I have an email from the buyer, OOPS, he thought I sent the wrong thing. He only opened the gift, and didn't bother with the second baggie. He apologized, left me positive fb, and that was that. Except they won't remove the defect.
(Now I wrap the purchase in tissue and just toss the free gift in. If I think the buyer is a doofus, I will write on it, free gift.)
I also have one defect that says the buyer gave me less than 3 stars. It was a long time ago. How do I find out who it was who did that?

I have one also, was wondering myself how to see who gave me the low rating. Was hoping someone on here could tell us. Thank you in advance for any reply.

You can pull an excel spreadsheet from the buyer dashboard that will give you the transaction ID of the defect.

I got a ding from another dealer who submitted an item not received when he could see it was stuck in the PO. He was just irritated.

Go to your ebay seller dashboard the go to
It is on the left hand side of the page under "Reports and service tools"
Click it and then click "create a report".

I just noticed I got another defect for "returns-item desciption". This was for an item that was damaged by the USPS that I recently gave (and received) a refund on. I guess if I'm gonna get a defect for doing the right thing, I may as well stop doing the right thing. Maybe I should just force ebay to take the money from me, versus me giving it up voluntarily from now on? I mean what the hell is the difference? This was there doing anyway, not the customer. He didn't open a case against me. He messaged me and we worked it out amicably among ourselves. He even gave me good feedback with no mention of the damaged item. So what it boils down to is, if the post office or whatever shipping company you use damages the item and you have to give a refund, then your gonna get an automatic defect because of their mishandling of the item. A 3rd party causes your defect, nice eBay... real nice!

I just refunded a buyer for an item that was damaged in shipping. They didn't go through the eBay system, left positive feedback & so far no defect. I won't be surprised if one shows up though. I also got a message this morning from a buyer that bought 20 pieces of flatware. It was delivered on the 10th & they say it was missing a piece. I'm 99.9% sure I sent all 20 pieces & am 100% sure it's not in my storage or packing areas. I suspect it went missing on their end. Between those two things I could be pushed right up to the 2% mark & my TRS status may be in jeopardy.

Thanks. Sadly, the transactions are too old, and I have no idea who it was. Now I know I need to check regularly. Thanks for the help.

You should have id and transaction numbers for the past 20 defects over the past year. Try this link- download a report. . You can see who it was by cross referencing the transaction date and/or number on your paypal history via the activity page.
