WHY??

Just curious as to why I see so many old coins being posted with holes in them? what was the purpose of this?

Many coins were "holed" to string them in their pockets so as not to lose them. People also did this to wear as a pendant. I have seen them holed to make buttons, whizzers, spur rowels, washers, etc...
