I found this key 2 years ago in an abandoned farmhouse here in Maine ... well it wasn't totally abandonded , there was a family of porcupines living there . I googled the Strand Hotel and it still exists . It was built in 1909 . I imagine they've changed the locks since then . The web site I went to said that several years ago , during excavations of WW 1 trenches in Normandy , an original Strand Palace Hotel room key was found and it is now in the Victoria & Albert Museum in London .

Probably a memento of a girl he once knew in the Big War. ;D Who knows? Maybe room was rented out to Winston Churchill. LOL

Really cool!!

I love old keys like that. This one must have had a great story attached.

Thanks for posting.

you should contact the V&A museum. see if they can give you advice or the story behind their key! might fill you in a little on the history of yours...

Could you imagine having to carry those around these days, with all the keys I have on my ring, my pockets would weigh 50 pounds... ;D Good luck & Happy hunting~

Very nice find,Im with Maxx, I would like to see more on it.HH

I agree you should surely contact the hotel, THey will be able to tell you something about it and what kind of room it opened. If one is in a museum then maybe they want that one as well! nice find its a beaut... I love the 1pound stamp impression on the back hehe I suppose that was their way of saying send it to us and we will pay the post office.

I E-mailed the Hotel a picture and a few questions . I'll let you all know if they write back !

The Strand certainly is still there, and one of the most historic hotels around. That's a great collectable, probably worth ?250 on e-bay.uk., which is around $500.
