Wire Gold Info?

Hi all, I noticed a bit of slim small pieces of gold in my pan today. I got the dirt from inside bedrock, and I was not sure if it really was gold because I had so much of it. What is wire gold? How does it form? And why is it in the bedrock? Here's a pic of what I found.

It looks like wire gold. It should bend very easily as well. Did you try a piece to see if it would?

I usually find wire gold when I'm dredging, and some of that wire gold sure is pretty as it comes in some amazing configurations.

It could be gold but the pieces all seem to be the same length and have some of the same "bends" in them. They might be the remains of a brass or wire brush someone used to clean up the bedrock.

Do a bend test on them. If they are stiff then they are going to be from a brush. If they bend really really easy then congrats.

...to tell you the truth it doesn't really look like wire gold.

I dont think its wire gold either, looks like brass.

I have examined it further and feel that it really is brass from my brush I was using. I'm going to keep testing it to see if it is gold or brass. It will most likely turn up as brass, but you can never be so sure. They seem to bend very easily, although I'm still skeptical.

IT's too good to be true. Its wire, took scissors to a piece and took one swing and it snapped in half. It's all brass.

Switch to a stiff synthetic bristle brush and you'll blow any synthetic pieces out very early in the panning process next time. Plus, you won't drive any nugget shooters crazy with all of the little bits of metal you're leaving behind.
