Any of you USA E-Trac users gone wireless headphones? If so, what and where did you find your setup?

I'm asking because I see on another forum some users from overseas countries are using a T.Bone GT EWS electric guitar transmitter with Technika TA 709 wireless receiver headphones.

Here is the link but you might have to join the site to see the thread...

Can't find these items in the US. Maybe I'm not looking in the right places.

I looked into this a while ago and never found anything small enough and portable enough to make it work. Bluetooth has a delay so stay away from those. Sounds like 800-900MHz systems are the way to go, if you can find one. Could hack one up, but the sound quality can't be that great.

I have a nice pair of Ratphones Max, and they are very comfortable on my head all day long. The cord also stretches really easily, and always returns to its coiled up state. I can set my E-Trac on the ground and work on digging a hole with my shovel without it pulling too hard on my head. I'm also 6' 3" tall. I wouldn't do that normally though as it's easy to just dig and hang onto my detector, but in some REALLY frozen ground I set down my detector for a second to see if I could dig this way. I ended up taking my headphones off because my detector was making extraneous noises which were not helping my 5 minutes of digging through solid ground.

If you do find something that works, please report back on what it is and how you like it :)

Here's some info posted by Tony Hunt that might be useful.

I have emails sent to the oversea's suppliers of these components about costs, shipping info and such. Want to be prepared when I get an E Trac.

Reply from the German T.Bone rep...

"Hi there,

you can order this from us but you would have to check locally which frequency you can legally use this in your country. The frequency these items work with are 863.000-865.000MHz and 863.125MHz - 864.875MHz. These regulations vary from country to country. The price would be in Euros as we are based in Germany. The US price can change daily due to the exchange rate. The shipping costs would be 30 € for that potential order."

Any idea who I ask about frequency regulations? FCC? I guess it would be bad if one was to interrupt police or medical, etc, with the E-Trac tones concert.

I'm guessing from this chart:
http://www.fcc.gov/mb/engineering/usallochrt.pdf

...that LAND MOBILE, and MARITIME in the 800-900MHz band is not AMATEUR, so you would be out of luck with that one... UNLESS you didn't care because you are out in a field metal detecting and NOBODY is going to be close enough to you for that transmitter to be picked up.

I would say, if you are OK with the insane exchange rates and shipping costs, go for it!

The local PD and Sheriff office operates on 900 MHz here. They have several repeaters located all over the County. I am just wondering if you would be picking up police signals all day? Monty
