Wish I'd stayed home...

Hello all,,,
As you can see in the pic, I broke another knife. :'( Third winter detecting, third knife broken... I'm averaging one knife a year and it sure does take a chunk out of your clad supply doing that. I must be like Kirk of PA and just don't know my own strength... ;D These knifes are great during the warmer months, but a little bit of cold and the blades turn brittle. I didn't think it was all that cold out that I had to worry about it, between 35-37 deg, but it only took one wrong move and pop is what I heard... :'(

I did manage to find 72 cents in clad, (5) Wheaties, and part of an old skeleton key. I dug most of it before braking the knife and the rest I dug with a small screwdriver I had in the car...

Hope ya all had better luck than I did. The luck from that penny must of only lasted a day... ;D
Have a great day, Leon...

Lots of replies to this thread, but no definitive answer.

Who uses a tool that works in frozen ground? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

Re: Wish I'd stayed home...

joe, I use a Wenoka diving knife, it's about 14 inches long with a blade about 8 inches, the handle is a rubber that is very comfortable, the shank off the knife runs the entire length with a hammer plug on the end, the blade is stainless with a serrated edge and line cutter, the other side is smooth, I sharpened it once since I got it 2 years ago and it still has a nice edge. I have never had any kind of problem with it. I've used it as a knife, a axe, a hammer, a pry bar, a screwdriver, a saw, it's the best I've found. hope this one helps.

Thanks sniffer. I have a Lesche and was wondering if anyone reading this thread has used a Lesche in the frozen ground. Guess I'll try it myself and if it fails I'll look to buy one of those SCUBA knives.

Thanks again.
