Wood block What is it???

I’m guessing this is some mold for forming something but really I have no clue I believe the round thing is metal

I was thinking like a cheese cutting block and a handle had been in the plugged hole but it would only work if the cheese hung over the edge and I would assume the cut out area was where the handle sat when not in use?

I think Back-of-the-boat is right. Cheese cutting block, the notch is for the knife handle. That dark disc is a magnet, isn't it? To hold the blade.
