Here is one for you experts. Given to me by a friend, who got it YEARS ago from his uncle- who said he dug it up somewhere in tenn.
The details are scetchy, and I will try to get more info, but I am quite certain it was deemed at the time to be somewhat of a treasure, and not a store bought replica or novelty.

SO- assuming it was found, dug, or otherwise not made recently. (big assumption, I know)
Anyone ever seen one of these? The specs: about 3 inches by 1 1/2 inch. Made of wood. Has a wide hole bored into center longitudinally not unlike a pipe bowl, but quite deep (2 inches), has 2 cylindrical "arms" with one being bored out laterally to fashion, say a necklace chain; and the other being bored longitudinally to reach the main, inner bowl.

It does not have residue inside, except what might be tiny remnants of earth or clay. It does not smell like dope at all, actually has no smell. Incidentally, if i blow into the main bowl on the mouth piece...it does NOT whistle or anything groovy like that.

Sure is an ornamental little sucker.

Here it is resized. I cant really tell, but it almost looks like it has a poly finish on it. John

I would say that it is an absolutely modern piece, and it seems unlikely that it was dug out of the ground. I just do not see something that ornate holding up very well if it were burried in soil. Plus it does look like it has poly or varnish on it............plus (to my eye at least) it seems to have some pretty clear european or historic American stylistic influences. As to what it is ... I dunno.

modern stoners bit of handwork

Looks more like a hippy peace pipe than an Indian one. Does it smell used?

early american hippie... the black resin in the stem is the giveaway...

Thanks for all the replys folks. I thought the very same thing when it was handed to me, (how could this shiny, unblemished, thing have any significant age to it)

i was hoping it had some wierd characteristic that made it clearly Native American.

thanks again

Seeing that it looks like it has a carburetor I'd say it was more than likely used to smoke pot and is modern.

Its cool but modern. From Tennessee you say? Does not look local. I would have guessed the Atlantian era in Ga. In my humble opinion :laughing7:
TnMountains

I have wondered for years what happened to that pipe? Woodstock!!!!!!! :tongue3: :tongue3: ;D
