The weather continues to be nice here in northern Ohio. We still have yet to get a frost. Makes for great hunting of schools and parks but not for the woods or tall grass areas.

A quick morning hunt at this site didn’t produce much other than a some clad and wheat pennies.

Back to a local spot after work. Not much – 1918 Wheat penny and a lipstick thingy. The lipstick thing is interesting since it had a little mirror attached to it (a couple of glass pieces still in it).

Another quick hour hunt at the 1890’s schoolhouse foundation yielded about 6 targets. One was this IH penny. 8)

A week or so ago Dan, Nate and I got together for a 2 year anniversary Iceberg hunt.
If you are not familiar with the “Iceberg” then check this out:

It was a little warm, buggy and I didn’t get any silver but it was still satisfying to walk away with 40 wheat pennies and an interesting token.

I tried to google W.A. Fraser token and got a link to a picture of Woodmen of the World delegates from 1915. Also didn’t turn up much on the “Regular Fellers of America” pin. :icon_scratch:

Also trying to get some new sites. Put in a couple of requests through realtors (not to hopeful there) but did find a new cellar hole.

The growth is really bad in the area and I couldn’t put up with the mosquitoes. It might have some potential. First finds from the site:

I picked up what I thought was the exact same woodmen of the world token on ebay. Nate pointed out that they are different. See for yourself:

Can you find the differences?

That's about it for now. Nate and I did have a decent Columbus Day hunt but that will have to wait for the next post. I should get my water detector back any day now. Just in time for the cold weather. :P Oh well, I think I do better on land anyway.

HH all. :icon_sunny:

Great stuff, Bob! Incredible; just a casual hunt to celebrate the Iceberg and you bring home 40 wheats. Even more incredible that there wasn't more silver. Cool token.

Great finds and post, Bob. Really like the Woodsmen token. Mosquitoes have been bad up here too....maybe from the late rains? Need some hard frosts to clear the air.

Reg'lar Fellers was a long-run newspaper comic strip adapted into a feature film, a radio series on NBC and an animated cartoon. Created by Gene Byrnes (1889-1974), the comic strip offered a humorous look at a gang of suburban children (who nevertheless spoke like New York street kids). Syndicated from 1917 to 1949, Byrnes' strip was collected into several books.

You just have to come up north in the summer. :) I have been down to Huston on business a couple times. I doubt I will be going there anytime soon but if I do I'll give you a holler.

Henry,
I was surprised at the amount of wheat pennies I found in an area we have really pounded. Silver is a bit harder to come by at the 'berg these days.

Absolutely! From the preliminary finds it's probably an older site. As much as I want to go back, I really need to let those dang skeeters die off first. ;D

Dan, we are kicking and doing well. Nate's enjoying college but since he's commuting we still get to go detecting on occasion. :icon_sunny:

Thanks. I figure if I spend 8 hours digging this stuff I might as well spend 15 minutes taking some decent pictures.

Nick,
Thanks. I saw those links. Organization started in 1890 but WA Fraser..... I speculate that the token is from the 40's to 50's. The one I found is probably older than the one I purchased off ebay. Maybe the ebay token is 60's? All just a hypotheses. ;D

Thanks the rest of you all. Jerry - I do hope you are right about the LC. I haven't found many of those.

at1clad - Thanks for the info on the 'fellars pin. Everything Nate and I have found at this site has been from the 1890's until the 1920's.

Anne - I know that has been the problem with the skeeters - late rains. BTW - the DFXonly hunt is going to be in Michigan next April. PM me and I'll give you the lowdown. It should be a great hunt.
