No coin-sniffing dogs, or ouiji boards that tell you where to look.
But, learned many years ago about hunting around trees, and exposed tree roots.
I began working over the roots, or try to work inbetween the roots.....was in the Petersburg, VA area.....lots of very old, big trees.
And plenty of exposed roots.
Then, found that if I worked parallel to the roots, I got much better signals when a target was deep under the root.
Parallel to the roots, there is no raising or lowering of the detector.....just run at the same height, as close to the ground/root as possible.
Then, change the angle of the head and hunt out a little from the root.
You will cover 100% of the area, and not mistake the slight sounds from deeply buried ones to raising and lowering of the coil, going over the root. Found some beauties, and after finding out about this, then I would test it both ways. Many times, I couldn't get any
signal when working perpendicular (sp) to the roots.
Best of luck.

Good tip. Thanks! I have trouble around roots with false signals but never purposely tried this technique. Lot's of old Cottonwoods in Colorado and my new 6" round coil should work better. Have a good year.......
