Hey there, Kiko here!! Went our for a hunt today at an old school..that was built in around 1930, and still going. Well, after the school and work day ended, and all of the kids were out of the field, and came out for a quick hunt. I'm not sure...but I know I'm doing SOMETHING wrong...all I found were old cans, tabs and iron junk...not ONE coin!!! Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I know the pros here can help me out! Sorry if this is in the wrong section ;) I thank you all, and please, any help is appreciated, hoping to hit a park tomorrow afternoon...sooo, Thanks!

Hi, Kiko!
Just stay with it - and the more time you invest pointing your coil toward the soil - the better your luck will become. I've been at this fabulous hobby for about 13 months now and I enjoy (nearly) every single minute I spend dirt- (or sand-!) fishing. Some days, I take things very seriously; I work grids and small areas and dig everything that even remotely sounds like a signal. Other days - usually when I'm at the beach and it's a glorious day in paradise - I often walk at a decent pace allowing my detector to pick up whatever she chooses. I know it isn't the most efficient approach and that I should go very slowly and overlap my swings, yadda, yadda.. .but if I wanted it to feel like work, I'd be back at my desk instead of enjoying the sunshine. So, just take your time... you'll find your rhythm soon enough and you'll be listing all sorts of found goodies here on the website - I'm sure of it!

Welcome Kiko! Just to throw my 2 wheaties worth in, I recently talked with a dealer close by and was told that it takes about 200 hours to get comfortable with your detector. Don't get too discouraged yet....you've got a long way to go.

If you have detector clubs in the area, talk to them. Or look on the forums for someone who lives nearby that may have a little more experience. Hunting buddies are the best.

I had a lot of trouble in the beginning and started out in a school yard across the street from my house that was built in the late 50's. Found a lot of cans, tabs, pencil eraser tops (the metal ring) and assorted junk. On top of that, the area I lived in was about 15% hard red clay. And of course, I started detecting in the middle of summer! One day I went to the school yard and just sat on the bleachers for an hour looking it over, trying to imagine where the activity was 30, 40 50 years ago. Then I started detecting these spots. Started finding coins on a regular basis (no silver, but close a few times).

Just hang in there and take the time to look around and let your mind wander. You will be pleasantly surprised by what you find.
