Silver certificates

Stopped by the bank this afternoon. Teller knows I like old/odd things. She says “do you want any silver certificate dollars?” I’m assuming 2-3. Apparently someone passed and the kids brought in their collection. Long story short, for $66 I walked away with 66 silver certificates (she had culled the better looking ones for me. I think there was over $100 dropped off)

All were 1935 and 1957s. Not worth much, but I know what the tooth fairy will be handing out for the next 3-4 yrs.

The '35 series includes some valuable bills. For example:
'35 star Julian/Morgenthau
'35 star or no star Julian /Morenthau with "R" or "S" surcharge.
The R or S surcharge will appear at the 4 o'clock position off the blue seal.
The R and S star bills can be worth in the thousands.
The '35B Julian/Vinson and the ''35G Smith/Dillon are also worth many times face.
Take another look.

No stars in either the 35s or 57s. No r or s in the 35a’s. No 35b. 2 35g’s.

What are the g’s worth? I’d say fair condition.

There’s still ~40 bills at the bank. May swing by tomorrow and get the rest to look.

Went back over lunch. They had about 50 left. Most were tough shape. Girl let me go through them, only took 5. Ended up with 1 star 1957, 2 1935g’s, and 2 1935a’s with black lines at the top of them. Assume the lines came from an off cut at the federal reserve. Do they add anything to value?

Also ask her to keep all the 'odd change' for you; maybe show her samples.

I think I will start asking for those...I love old bills...sounds like you have a good rapport with the teller...people occasionally use silver notes at my local grocery store and the cashier buys them at face value...

if you sell them for $5 each, hassle free... not a bad score. Had a friend buy a bunch of US bills on a Canadian auction site once, about $30 dollars in face, which is what they sold for.... no interest. He flipped it all on ebay quick and for a nice profit.

I got a nice '55 double die on the same site for about half what it goes for down here.
