That is rough. Maybe after silver reaches $60 an ounce you will recoup your losses. :)

Who are you calling a noob? Boxes have been dead for me the last 4 months. All of my finds but 1 40% have been teller tray finds. If anyone coming into this hobby thinks they are going to get rich now, you are out of your gourd. Get out now!

Thank God you started this thread...

Listen up noobs....

$1500 halves - 1 40%
$700 dimes - 1 90%

$5.40 "profit" for 4-5 hours work, add in gas and im in the hole for about $5.

Gotta go dump all this crap in the morning

IM RICH!!!!!!!!!!
That is about average for some, above average for many.

This is a hobby. No one is going to get rich unless the armored car companies bring the boxes to you and then pick them up for others to go through and get "skunked".
I've been coin collecting since the mid 1960's. Pulling silver when ever I found it. Didn't do copper then because they all were. But I pulled "wheaties". I can remember in
1974 while in New Hampshire, I went into a small rural bank and asked for "pennies". They didn't ask if I had an account, they asked how much would you like. I replied $50.
Went back to my room and searched. $35 were in "wheaties". Still have them. Today you're lucky to get 12-15 out of a box. I have found rolls of them in the last few months.
As for silver, back a few years ago, when the economy was booming, silver was in the $6-$8 range. The coin company I was dealing with would send me $200 a paycheck.
I stopped buying when it reached $20. I still have all of it. I still go through my boxes and CWR's. Silver has been down but I'm still looking. It's still out there.
The soap box is now closed.

Over the last 2 weeks I've done 16 boxes of halves. Only like 4 found in all that mess. The weeks before wasnt any better.

Keep on roll'en.

You win some, you lose some, it is a hobby for me ( though it has turned into work here lately) and the thrill of the hunt. I'd say that you would have to dothis for 10+ years to really see any profit from it, with gas and time, I don't think I am ahead of the game either, it is a slow painstaking process to collect, lots of work, time and effort, it is definelty not for everyone, I would say more for a select few. People come on here and see some finds and think "Wow, I'm gonna be rich" but you really have to read between the lines and see the EXTREME effort some of us put into this hobby going through many many many skunks, buying treats for bank tellers and kissing the banks ass all the time so we don't get cut off from either dumping or ordering. My friends think I am crazy and would never do what I do ( and they have been sitting there when I have pulled 35 40%'s out of a box) and say there are better things to do with my time. We all wish it was as easy as just ordering some boxes and going home and pulling out lots of Silver, but that is not the case. I only post if I have a great find, if I posted every skunk I got ( and everyone else for that matter) there would be a million skunk threads on here in no time. HH, Maverick.

I will say it again. After all expenses are fairly figured in, most CRHers would be dollars ahead by just buying the silver outright instead of searching for it. Unless you have the time and the means to do massive volume, its going to be difficult to break even. If you don't enjoy the search, this definitely isn't the hobby for you. If you're CRHing solely for "profit", its danged near impossible without the ability to do big volume and/or a few very big scores.

If anyone thinks thats a scare tactic to scare off the "competition", track the miles you drive in pursuit of coins and assign a value to those miles at 55 cents per mile. Track the time you spend picking up coins, searching coins, and dumping coins. Do this for a year. I think you'll be shocked at just how much time and money all of that "free" silver actually cost.

It's 20 degrees with 6 inches of snow on the way, got any hobbies that wont cause frostbite? =)

You could always take up knitting. Make me some goofy hat, then i won't have to explain why i want the coins, they will just leave me be when i wear it in =P

1 X 40 in 3 boxes is what some of our hunters DREAM of. We have a poster in AZ (?) with a one hundred (that's 100) box skunk streak.

Speak of the devil! You were exactly who I was thinking of when I started typing!!

On a serious note, I am new to this site but not new to CRHing. Is it common to have 4-5 people every week posting "I'm new, help me out" posts?

man the last few weeks, lots of big mouthes on the silver around here, blabbing in the banks, much more then usual. I pulled around 19 silvers out of the last 34 boxes in the last 2 weeks, could be worse though.

Not a bad find really. I don't do dimes so can't say how good that is, but I've been skunked on 2k searches plenty of times, so finding a 40 would be great. Just keep it up and try to not make extra trips to pick up or drop off (plan them on the way to/from work for instance)

I went through the normal 20 boxes of halve this week with 1-90 and 6-40's. Not even close to losing money and not making much either. Just one of those weeks. You just have to keep stacking it and it will add up. Hoping that next week will be better. No one is going to get rich from crhing, its a fun hobby and if you look at it as you are going to get rich its just not going to happen. If it turns into "work" its time to take some time off or find a new hobby. If or when it turns into work and is no longer fun that will be all for me. Have fun with it and if your lucky you may make a little cash ta boot!

I appreciate the supportive posts, im not going to quit, ive actually doubled my halves as of next week. I just think we need to balance the posts on here a bit so newbies dont expect massive scores.
