My daughter came home with this knife from my mother-in-law's house. She is moving and handing things off to her grandkids. My father-in-law passed away 10 years ago after a good life. He served in WW2 and the Korean War. His story was that he took this knife from a dead Japanese soldier on Okinawa and we have no reason to doubt that.
Can someone ID the type, age, and origin for us? It weighs 1.4 pounds. Te Calasiao is in the Phillipines according to my daughter. Maybe the dead Japanese soldier took it from a dead Filipino soldier during a different campaign. Haven't posted in a while. Miss you guys and girls. Thanks for your help.

I don't doubt the family story but, in form/style, it looks to me like a Filipino-made 'bolo':

Thanks Red-Coat! I think that when the Japanese invaded the Philippines during WWII the Japanese soldier must have gotten a hold of it.
