Hi everyone, been some time since I've posted. The summer was so rainy and now my Fall season is always too short. But with help from my brother he had told me "that field used to have carnivals when I was a kid". So researching I went ...
Although I haven't come up with what years the carvinal was there (probably mid-40's) I have also learned from my Dad that back in the 50's had a few games of Donkey Baseball there and since then there have been microd races also. So I seeked permission but it was late Spring then and the soy beans took the priority over me so I had to wait... late October, the beans are now out!
No sooner had I walked into the field I was popping out a couple of Merc's then some wheats, another Merc... so in these past two weeks I've coverd about 80% of the wide open field. Visit by visit the finds kept weakening (except for the clad) but I never ran short of pull tabs and memorial cents!
It kind of looks like the Merc's are from the carnival era and the Rosies and Washingtons from my Dad's Donkey days. Today's nice surprise from the field is what looks to be a WWII era Enlisted Scouts Collar disc. It has the backing but is corroded into place. I little google search provided me with this site helpful link: http://images.google.com/imgres?img...images?q=WWII+collar+disc&gbv=2&ndsp=21&hl=en
Wheats 55 = 1917-1958
Nickels 4 = 1949, 1951, 19??, and a Silver 1944-P
Mercs 5 = 192?, 1939, 1940, 1943-D, 1945
Rosies 3 = 1946, 1953-D, 1958-D
Washingtons 5 = 1951, 1951-D, 1952-D, 1957, 1958-D
Clad = Lots of clad and pull tabs.
Also shown from the feild is a silver plated fork handle reads A.Prevost, and a plain 4-leaf aluminum clover.
Thanks for looking!
