XLT E-Series vs. DFX

I am thinking about selling my XLT and getting a DFX because I have heard alot of good things about the DFX. Would like input from other users on the real difference between the two units. Would you stick with the XLT or go for the DFX??

You're gaining customizability at the expense of simplicity. General rule of thumb: you get more whan you spend more. The DFX has dual frequencies, which may or may not be a benefit to you. Depends a bit on what you want the detector for and where you plan on hunting. Beaches, etc.

My wife has an XLT and I have a DFX. After 2 years I do have an edge in good finds over her XLT. I also put in a bit more time and really try to "learn" my machine. I think that is the difference and not the machines. I know the DFX has dual frequencies and other bells and whistles. The main reason I bought myself the DFX was due to a response I got to this same question on here. Someone, I wish I could give credit where due, but I forget the name, told me that if I did not buy the DFX I would always wonder if I should have. That is sooo true. Anyways, My wife and I have been thrilled with both machines. Hope this helps a little. HH dave.

I love my DFX. I wouldn't trade it for any other machine on land. You can literally adjust everything on the machine... which can also be its downfall. It can be complicated if you don't learn it well. I tell everyone who gets the DFX... also sign up @ www.dfxonly.com, and get jeff foster's book, Digging Deeper with the DFX.

I am not the expert on either. I do know there is a one Whites user who's advise many people seek and he prefers the XLT. The DFX might be better but not in his opinion. It might not be in yours. I wouldn't trade on what we say. I would get a DFX to try and compare and then decide. I've got the same situation with the MXT and M6, I'm not going to trade for the M6 because it has tones. Some people like the feature and others turn it off. I hunt for coins using the MXT's relic mode and others will only use the C/J mode. Rob

Are there dealers that let you try them? I'd hate to buy one, then not like it and be stuck with it.

I demoed the first detector I bought. Gave the dealer my license and a deposit. I don't know if there are many like that around, but no harm in asking
