Found this while metal detecting the other day. It is quartz. In the 4th picture the left side seems broke but the right side is beveled to an edge and that is about all I know.

Hard to tell from the pics .... being quartz only makes it tougher it doesn’t photo well but I would lean toward no

I tried everything I know to get a good picture but it is nearly impossible. Here are two more. I drew the line in the second one using my mouse just to give an idea of the possible shape as that side is broken, I wish I could get a picture of the other side showing the beveled edge but with the point being so small I can't do it.

Do you see a lot of that type of material down your way? If they do, then maybe. Aside from the top down outline (the shape), it should have a general cross section that has a relatively strait edge.

I know New England and some areas of the Mid-Atlantic are lithic poor, and natives used a lot of soft and crumbly material. Something like that from there certainly could be something. In the Midwest, there really wouldn't be any reason for an ancient person to use that material for such a small point.

On the good side, at least it doesn't take up too much space if you want to toss it in your maybe box...

There are a good bit of worked quartz pieces found about 50 miles north of here. And, just about every item that I have found detecting this site has been beat up by the plow. And, there have been quite a few points found at this site, even a couple rolled copper ones. I am trying to convince myself that this may be a point but I am beginning to doubt it myself.

Given the area that you found it, I would tend to think not. There's so much quality flint /chert here in SW Georgia I don't know why they would have chosen that type material. Just a thought. Bring it with you next hunt and let me see it in person?

If it was found in a creek I would think water worn but seeing it was found in dirt Im saying natural. They just dont get water worn laying in the dirt, doesnt show any flaking from what I can see. Its a good faker though.

It passed the smell and taste test. And, I saw one identical to it posted on another site. I know it`s identical because I posted it!
