Hi All,

Went to an old park today and found a 1864 (? - I think it says 1864 - that's what I see) Indian Head and two others that I can't make out yet... Need some help on cleaning... Any assistance would be appreciated.

Also, my neice found a 1919 W Mercury Dime. Can anyone tell me more about these coins or where I can find out more about them.

Can anyone tell me more about how to properly clean old coins.

I will post pics in a few. Got to go give the girls a bath before bed...

Pics to follow.

Those are some great finds especially for a newbie! You will get alot of debate on here about weather to clean or not to clean your coins.....its something you as the finder will have to decide. when I started out I decided I liked the coins cleaned so I experimented with different methods from info I learned on this site till I found one that worked for me. I highly suggest you try different methods on lesser coins till you get good results then do it to the ones that are more valuable. As far as the last coin you found its surely a V nickle.......the best part of finding that coin is that it tells me you are digging those "lesser" signals and those are the ones that will bring you the GOLD! Your heading down the correct path so keep up the good work!

Jade, I think that "1910" coin is a large cent and the date is actually 1810 or 1818. Over on the left side of your screen, click on "home" and then click on the article about "Colonial Village Treasures." Look at the first picture in the article and compare your coin to the large cents shown there!

I have to agree...I think it is early 1800s not 1900s. Congrats. Just because the park is not that old does not mean people were not losing coins there earlier.

Are you guys nuts? :help: That coin is a 1910 V nickel, not a large cent. ::) I do agree though that there could very well be older coins at this site judging by what's turned up. Congrats Jade on some great finds! I'd consider it a very good day of detecting to have found them.

Great recoveries :headbang: Pound that site real good :icon_thumleft:

Nice finds, that spot will keep you busy till the snow flies.

Those are some awesome finds. Great rush when you see that 18++ on the date. Wow
