Your Favorite Movie...

That's why I posted! For balance. But I really like the machisimo movies too. There will never, EVER be another John Wayne.

I could tell by the movies listed who was female without even looking at the avatar. I won't even post my faves cuz next to the machismo, I would look all mushy! but Nature girl, they needed less testosterone on this page!

ok, my OTHER favourite movie is "The Shipping News"

So there....
:laughing7:

Man, ALL of these movies listed are EXCELLENT...

Shipping News :hello2: Another Kevin Spacey movie, you can't go wrong with him. He was also great in the life of David Gale, and that was not a macho movie either. Another great flick is the "Illusionist", I like most anything with a good story attached. Shawshank Redemption, the list would go on and on as there are too many great flicks out there.

NatureGirl,,,, MamaBear,,, you just keep on jumping in,,,, balance is good. And so is Kathy Bates.

I will just bet that there ain't one guy in here that has not shed at least one tear over a movie, even if they did hide it.
Hell you just mention OLd Yella' and I bust up. :'(

is The Shipping News a chick flick? I loved the book, tho it was a little crude, but still a great book. & I love the old westerns too. there will never be another Duke. & Arid Z, I still cry at Bambie! Ole yeller? there aren't enough tissues for me to watch that one!
anyone ever see Everything's Illuminated? odd flick, but worth seeing. & call me crazy, but I love Popeye with Robin Williams. just down right silly & fun! Oh, & Jeremiah Johnson still gives me nightmares!!

Lots of good ones mentioned. I don't have an all time favorite, but some of the ones I'm engaged enough to watch all the through: Jeremiah Johnson was good. Little Big Man, but I didn't try to read anything into it. Dances With Wolves ok, but we all thought Graham Greene was the star. (And I still wonder why Kevin Costner managed to find the one white woman in all those Indians) I usually hate when they make movies based on books, but 'The Stand' turned out ok, and Michener's 'Centennial', which I finally got on DVD a couple of years ago, would be my all time favorite movie based on a book.

OH, Kathy Bates...whenever I think of her, I think of "Misery."

Another favorite is "Fargo." Steve Buscemi is soooo weird!

Scott

Any John Wayne movie, especially "sons of katie elder", "the bank robbers", "True grit" to name a few. Can't forget the original Willie Wonka with Gene Wilder :headbang:... Not deep stuff here, but I am easily entertained...

Yeah Spooky, we bought 'Thunderheart' because Graham Greene was in it, and he was the star. He's somebody we can always relate to in a way, even though he's Canadian. (hehe) For folks who liked the 'Dances with Wolves' sort of thing, check out 'Pow-Wow Highway' and 'Smoke Signals' We fell out laughin watchin Smoke Signals. It was told in 'the best oral tradition'.

The world seems to stop when some older favorites come on...I stop everything and just sit down & watch again no matter how many times I've seen it before.

Jeremiah Johnson
Winter Hawk
How The West Was Won
Shenandoah
Lonesome Dove
Dances With Wolves
Open Range
Ben Hur
The Greatest Story Ever Told
The Sound of Music
Gone With The Wind

 RR

Good ones, RiverRat. 'Wind Walker' is a good one, even though a white dude played the main character. But my buddy Harold Goss-Coyote played one of the bad guys. He's passed on, but I can still see him on screen at least.

John Candy in "Summer Rental".

Outlaw Josey Wales...."You gonna pull those pistols or whistle dixie?"
Another one from the same movie. Josey says "Just when I get to liking someone they aint around much longer" The old indian responds " I noticed that when you get to disliking someone they aint around much longer either"

Book to movies...I would have to say "Deloris Claiborne" ,"The Green Mile", "Shawshank Redemption" You notice they are all Stephen King. For the Shawshank Redemption and Doloris Claiborne they are movies that have nothing to do with the supernatural. His best.

Cool Hand Luke: "What we've got here is a failure to communicate".

"Now Luke, you've got to get your mind right."

The last of the dogmen.

Very good movie, and one of my all time favorites . . . but my favorite single scene is from "The Outlaw Josey Wales". When he goes to see Ten Bears, and the entire conversation that ensues. "It is sad that the governments are Chiefed by the double tongues . . ." is a great statement and holds much truth, especially on this day.

My favorite altime line in a movie is. "Tuco",,, If your gonna shoot, shoot don't talk!
Arid.
YES!! "A Boy and his Dog" a young Don Johnson at his best. I think the voice of the dog is Jason Robards? I love this movie. My daughter actually found a DVD of it. After that I would have to say "Shawshank Redemption" and on the lighter side- "Big" :icon_thumleft:
