OFFICIAL LA BAYOU HUNT - DETAIL UPDATES 4/4/08!!! Pg 14

    April 18-19-20, 2008.
    Friday evening through Sunday evening.
    .
OFFICIAL LA BAYOU HUNT - DETAIL UPDATES 4/4/08!!! Pg 14-indexcanr0w7j.jpg
    RICHLAND PARISH, LOUISIANA
PLEASE KEEP THIS THREAD AS AN
    OFFICIAL HUNT THREAD.
    QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ONLY
    REGARDING THE HUNT.

This is a private lands hunt that encompasses 85 acres with two homesites, in addition to two other local sites with historical value.

All meals are furnished except breakfast. This is because most everyone seems to be checking into local hotels/motels, which have a continental breakfast. This is fine; it kept the costs down for you.

The price for hunters is $60.00. This includes meals from Friday night through Sunday night, no breakfasts.

The price for guests (A$$ES) is $25.00. This includes meals from Friday night through Sunday night, no breakfasts.

The monetary difference between this hunt and the past ones is that meals are furnished, plus the hunt is extended through Sunday.

Please send funds to: B Grammer
    P O Box 3
    Archibald, LA 71218

No credit cards, please. Am not equipped to process them. Cash, check, money orders ok.

Registrations are needed by April 10th. Anything after that will have to be cash and advance notice.

After registration and monies are received, you will receive a private e-mail depicting site address and directions.

The menu will include local Louisiana cuisine, all cooked on site. Shrimp, catfish, gumbo, pork, deer, beef, scallops, chili, breads, fruits, veggies, coffee, water, sodas. When hunters go offsite to other locations, lunches will be packed and provided. There will always be fruits and sweets available, in addition to sodas and water. If you need specific sodas, diet sodas, etc., please bring a supply for yourself. If you are diabetic, please let me know so I can have the appropriate juices for you.

This is a family and adult hunt. Children are welcome! This is a farm with chickens, roosters, dogs, cats, and ducks. It can be a wonderful experience for kids, and we encourage their involvement! But we do understand that animals can inflict injury on children, so we ask for parental supervision.

Adults, feel free to BYOB. Be aware that Louisiana is a dry state on Sundays (cannot purchase). You are more than welcome to partake, but be adult about it. Please have a designated driver back to the motels and cognizant of the fact that there may be children and non-imbibers present at the hunt and after-hour activities.

There will be a Hold Harmless/Liability Release document to sign for all visitors on site before any hunting or activities begin. Please volunteer yourself to sign this so hunting or other activities are not delayed.

    Schedule is:

Friday: Travel and check-in at local motels-- campers onsite
    Dinner onsite at 6:00 p.m.
    Night hunt, if you like

    Saturday: Hunt
    Noon: Lunch
    Hunt again
6:00 – Dinner and prize awards; bonfire; live music
    Night hunt, if you like

    UPDATE: 2/16/08

Sunday: 9:00 – Optional Trip to Poverty Point, an ancient American Indian site 45 minutes away.
Two sites to hunt, in addition to the Grammer homesite:
    8:00 A.M. - Mr. John's Place
    1:00 P.M. - The Hub
    6:00 P.M. – Dinner and bonfire
    Good-byes

You are free to bring camping equipment to camp out on the property. Call or PM me if you wish to do so, so I can get sites ready.

Local hotels are available within 10 miles. They are the Super 8 and Days Inn in Rayville.

Two sites now available besides the 90 acres with the 2 homesites:

    1. The Hub, in town, alongside the railroad tracks that were first laid in the late 1800s (I’ll try for a more exact date). It’s been called The Hub for decades, don’t know why. Probably because it was The Hub of Archibald, as far as excitement, finance and working opportunities went in the 50s through the 70s.

The railroad depot was across the road (south) from The Hub. I don’t know what was on The Hub in the late 1800s-early 1900s, but that’s where the center of town was and I'm still researching it for plats and pics. Approximately 4 acres available for MDing. On the site is my great-grandmother’s home, still there, but it was occupied many years prior to her. The site has had something "modern" on it since, I would say, 1870. We'll see what we can find, huh?

I spoke with my cousin about MDing this land, and he absolutely gave his permission. In the past 50 years, it had a construction company’s headquarters on it, several buildings. The buildings have been torn down, but the concrete slabs are still there.

However, he stated to me that the land is “occupied by something.” He won’t rent the house out because he says that everybody who lives in that house turns up crazy. (This could be something good, what do ya think?) I asked him what he meant and all he would say was that it “ain’t a good place to be. Everybody who lives there ends up nuts.” Himself included. I asked his mom, my aunt, about this, and she said he’s always felt that way about the place. It’s vacant, and it’ll stay that way.

I asked him what he thought might be the problem and he said, “I don’t know. Indian burial grounds or something. Or maybe something’s buried there that shouldn’t be. I just know that everybody who’s been there, with the exception of Mama and Daddy, have gone nuts, me included. Ya’ll go out there and dig up whatever it is that makes folks go crazy. I’ll feel better then.”

I have a wonderful family, don’t I? Well, we won't knock it; we'll just go try and make my cousin feel better, huh?

    2. Mr. John’s Place - Nice old homesite from eons ago. About 7 miles from my place. You’ll love the ole codger who owns it now. We’ll have to mow the yard so you can hunt, but I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Virgin MD homesite, initially settled in early 1900s, late 1800s. About 5 acres on the homesite, many, many acres of woods.

    ________________________________________________

Saturday hunt here at the old homeplace, then Sunday morning at Mr. John's place, and Sunday afternoon at The Hub. Back to the greenhouse for dinner. Hunters are free to mix and mingle the places to their hearts' content. Stay at my place, go to The Hub, or go to Mr. John's place. Whatever strikes your fancy. Just be back at the greenhouse at 6:00 for grub.

There’s still an optional trip to Poverty Point Sunday morning. Anyone wants to go, I’ll escort. Probably an excellent trip for spouses and non-hunters, if you want to go.

Pics coming when the weather clears, maybe tomorrow.

Re: OFFICIAL LOUISIANA BAYOU HUNT SITE - SIGN UP

Posting a pic of the property you'll be hunting on and where the different sites are on it.

If you're camping, you may camp anywhere on the land. Chickens and dogs are confined to the north quarter, so no worries there. Cats roam. Just be aware of coyotes, skunks, possums, armadillos, bobcats and black bears. Usually nothing to worry about. Just be sure to sign your legal release papers.

Plan on bringing your Show-and-Tell, just like before. Others want to see the goodies!!! Not all of us are blessed with finding all those gorgeous things!!

More pics will follow. Have been under the weather and not able to go out and get shots. Soon. Promise.

Re: OFFICIAL LOUISIANA BAYOU HUNT SITE - SIGN UP

I am definately interested although I don't know from day to day how my health will hold up. And being a poor old retiree on a fixed income I will have to wait and see about my finances. Now if gasoline goes back down to 31.9 cents a gallon like it was when I was a teenager, I'll be there for sure! Can you believe it is hovering around 3 bucks a gallon and we are not absolutely raising hell about it? Back in the 50s and 60s, the CEO of the oil companies would have been taken out and lynched, and no prosecutor would touch the case! "The times they are a changing". I'll get back atcha' later when I can do some cyphering to see if I can scrape up enough $$$ to go. Monty
