Hi everyone,

I was out on a hilltop on an Indiana farm field at 6:30 this morning. By 6:45, I had this laying in the bottom of a 3 inch hole.

All I can say is wow wow wow. We don't find too many of these in Indiana. (to my knowledge)

Didn't even clean it yet - couldn't wait to post it.

Presenting......my oldest found coin:

Thanks for looking & Happy Hunting!

Great find !!
It's a half real 18mm diameter. Reverse legend: HISPAN. ET IND. R.M. F.F. Silver .9027 fine.
If it were a one real, the diameter would be 20mm and read: HISPAN. ET IND REX M 1R F.F.

Thanks for the info, Mackaydon! I haven't done much research on reales - basically because I never thought I would find one in this part of the country!

I've been working this site for nearly 4 weeks. I've found 3 LC's, but this is the first silver.
I will continue to hunt this site until Farmer Brown gets it planted.

Thanks for your input everyone!

I haven't even rinsed it off yet - it's THAT "field fresh". ;D

Wow! Is this your first 1700s coin? Not bad condition considering the age. I can't wait to find one. congrats on your find.

Yes, this is my first 1780's coin - my previous "oldie" was 1817 Coronett Large Cent.
