I don't even know where to start Frank picked me up & we headed back to a cellar hole that produced last time there (Roger got 2 nice Ct coppers ,frank got a nova constellatio & i dug a Ct & a 1722 french coin.
Today was no exception right off the bat Ct's started poppin, then a 1793 chain cent! a few more coppers.frank got a KG then i got the shoe buckle.after hours there we decided to hit another site we just eyeballed on side of road.another shoe buckle this one being iron and a 1807 draped bust LC. what a day!
kinda afraid to clean this chain cent anymore.has blackish gritty gunk on it.any suggestions or should i submit this to be professionally cleaned and slabbed?
also frank dug this cannonball.could this thing be live?notice the hole in center?
so all in all i dug 3 CT coppers,1 draped bust,1 chain cent & 2 smoothies.the 1793 is the rarer variety with AMERI in legend.

Great finds...I'm not sure if I'm more surpised at the finds or about the day you were having and you decided to move onto another site...My wife would have been calling the police to look for me while I was digging targets by moonlight.

Congrats on an awesome group of coins (the chain cent is amazing) and the banner.

I'm extremely lucky to pull away one decent find all year. The Saloon token I posted a few days was my best so far.

Dave, got some time to look at your Conn coppers this afternoon, I gave up on the worst shaped one, the other one is a Miller 33 something, most numerous varieties, so would take some time to get that one, so I concentrated on the 3rd one which I did get a positive ID on and good news, another rariety, believe it is a Rarity 6!
1787 Miller 32.6-X.6 Congrats on a nice bonus in addition to your Chain Cent.

Dave, make that two Rare Conn coppers! One of the CT collectors from C4 (Colonial Coin Collectors Club) verified my first attribution and gave the variety of the 2nd CT you found. The third one, can you post a clearer photo of Obverse and Reverse or email me one and he will try and get that one also.
Again, congrats on a super day!!

1787 CT is a Miller 33.44-W.3 a low Rarity 6....

Don

Added: Probably one of the best one day finds for rarer coppers I have ever seen. Out of curiousity, would be nice if you could work on those two "blanks" to see if you can at least ID what they were.

Dave, sorry, your luck ran out ;D the 1807 Large Cent appears to be a very common variety LOL Not 100% sure but think it is a Sheldon 273, Rarity 1 Pointed 1, Large 7/6.

Yep, talk about icing on the cake.

I wrote him earlier saying I didn't see it in any of the pictures which was good news because many without images are the rare ones. Rarity + condition = $

I think I know that spot, it's in John Doe County right? That's where all my best sites are.

Great find! Going with others have said, I would NOT clean it any further. The coin is VERY presentable as it is right now. If you ever decide to sell it, let the new owner (who will have paid a lot of $$ for it) make that decision. It's really nice to see a coin come to life, that I have only seen in books.
