A quick way to determine is to look for the VDB under the shoulder between the bust and edge of the coin. If it is there, then a 44. If it isn't there it either is a 14 or a 44 error (there are some out there, maybe only S Mint known).

I'm assuming the "VDB" is very small? Unfortunately, I do not have a loupe. Any other input?

I was going to say the same thing. Definitely 1944-D.

That makes 3 of us. The spacing between the nine and third digit is too great to be a legit 1914. It was common for scammers to doctor a 44D to appear to novices that it was a 14D.

It looks to me like a 44-D. As mentioned earlier, the spacing makes it seem like a 44-D. Good Luck.

The look says a 1914. The spacing says a 1944. the conclusion? A tampered 1944 made by someone to look like a 1914.

IMHO. ;D

On the bright side, I did find my first Indian Head in my box tonight!
