The black hole between Montana and Colorado.
Detector(s) used
Truffle seeking pig modified for metal.

The results have been so-so

When the pig fails me (which is often), I am relegated to a CTX3030 *sigh*. Like the dark ages or something.

I was thinking about it later. I have been hammering the hill just east of the pool. I have pulled a bunch of old coins out there (some silver) and the ring. I saw some kids running around with a detector watching me. As I left, they headed up to the hill I was on.

If I do, it will be later this afternoon.

Hit up Washington park.

Bunch of clad showed its face, along with a ton of trash.

Perhaps the most interesting find was a Ford Model T key. Had to be from 1909 through 1927. To date, my oldest verifiable find.

Estimated value. About $3 LOL.

It was only 3 or 4 inches down. But it was perhaps the rockiest dirt I have ever seen. I would have rather dug 2 feet in sand than those 3-4 inches.

I wonder if the dirt was fill, because I found a bunch of stuff from many various dates, all at similar depths.

I've found some old coins out in the stix 1919 penny and 1921 dime and they were less than an inch, and a1961 penny at 8 inches in the park. U would think the old stuff would be deeper. Our dry climate just doesnt let stuff sink I guess but the irrigated parks it does. I've got a 1919 model t in my front yard so that's a pretty cool find. Hit some playgrounds with my daughter and found two little rings that fit her. How deep does the ctx recognise a coin?

So far, I have accurately called a penny or a nickel at 8 inches.

I have had other signals which I'm sure are coins, but they are reading at 10+ inches and I just don't want to dig that deep in a city park.

The creepy thing is that I have been finding lead .177 cal pellets at 5 inches. I have to turn the sensitivity on the machine down in the parks as it is just too sensitive. Taco Bell sauce packets blow it out of the water 7 inches down and 2 feet away if I turn the sensitivity all the way up.

I have a small 6 inch coil on order that should arrive tomorrow. From what I have read, it REALLY REALLY helps in the super trashy areas but still gets some good depth.

My tesoro lobo with a little coil is awsome at seperating trash. And up against metal poles that would overload a larger coil, that's where iv found some of my best finds. And great depth on nickles for some reason. Found 30 plus live cartridges in the parks. A few that ruptured under ground. Ammo in the park, this must be Wyoming.

It's funny you mention that. I have found a metric buttload of ammo at Washington park. Both fired and unfired .22lr, .45ACP, 410 shotgun, even a musket ball. And not just the cases, a number of the actual fired lead bullets.

I have been asking the old timers around town about the history of Washington park, but most only remember it was it currently stands.

The way the park sits behind the pool, I almost wonder if it was a pond at one time. Maybe on the outskirts of town, people would come shoot. I dunno.

that new coil will Prolly pick stuff up that your pinpointer wont. Garden creek park must have been a firing range before it was a park. Headn out before the snow pounds us again. We have a couple vacant lots down town that have produced some old coins, might be worth another try.

I did find a nice 14 k cross , 10 k ring, 3 crap rings, a silver necklace and about 5.00 in clad Sunday eve. Best hunt to date for me. Set picture of gold I found as my I.d. picture, kinda hard to see sorry

Thats an awesome hunt!! Local park? I received the 6 inch coil for the 3030, but I can tell it will be a few days before I can hit the parks.

Ya, we're now at 16 inches (we live near the mtn) and it is falling hard and fast.

Sad to say, best storm of the year so far LOL.

This is a lot of snow, might help keep garden creek running all summer, I hope cuz damn we need the moisture. I've hunted the last 8 years with my whites and it has a 9.5 stock coil that is great and I've found a lot of stuff with it, but since ive changed to a smaller coil on a new machine I've quadrupled my good finds. Keep this up I might be able afford a ctx! Lol. U can always go back with your big coil later and get what u missed. Your new coil is a worthy investment. Yes it was an epic hunt, empty lot down town that had a house that we tore down years ago. Found some wheaties there before, but a smaller coil and good discrimination on the iron paid off. I'm glad it snowed, my hand is bruised from digging so much. After I found that cross I was on a mission.

It's melting fast, but some of the old mountain cabins I want to search are completely off limits for awhile now.

I've been using this time to research new search places.

That sucks. Must be private land or historical site? We had a couple cabins, one burnt down and would be a great site to dig, cuz it was one of the oldest up there still standing, that was in the 70's... My pops sold and subdivided all our land up there but he might know the current owners, ill check into it . I know where there's an old mine up there too. Access iffy.

Ya, my family owns a number of the cabins up there. We also kinda have access to an old asbestos mine and the mining camp which is still standing.

The mine/camp are on a neighboring property, but he allows hiking and snowshoeing, so I really don't know about searching. I'm going to try and meet with him some time and ask about access.

I've also been pushing for access to Eadsville. I know several of the resident mountain sheriff deputies very well, and they are going to put in a good word.

Now if only the snow will melt.
