On treasure net, do all our finds have to be excavated from the earth? Composed of metalic metal type things? Or can discovered treasures be of other subject matter?

Today's amazing find, at least to me personally, comes from the job site...a older client who employed me to remove scrap lumber from his garage. The garage as it turns out was actually "Oscar's Garage" in the 1940's and 50's...an establishment dedicated to professional auto repair. In the process of the cleaning, the client asked if I would mind disspossing of a few documents from "Oscar's garage." He handed me a small mass of folded papers which included a 1931 farming magazine, 1955 and 1956 pinup calandars...REAL, ORIGINAL pinups????

I realize some out there may not hold these in the same reverence I do, but they are a truely remarkable chapter of history...a time not dilluted by terrabytes of internet insanity and instant access to anything. REAL pinups? I've looked high and low for such things...and to find them stashed away in a dusty old garage is just amazing to me...one of those genuinely exciting moments of discovery.

Like coins or jewelry or anything else, yes, you can buy all you like on ebay or wherever...to discover a lost stash of your dreamed of treasures is something all together different, isn't it?

So for those interested, I've incuded a different sort of "IH"....october 1955...those not interested should click out now before getting offended.

Honestly don't want to offend anyone, just that I've looked so long for a hidden stash like this...real pinups are just so rare in the wild. This collection is missing 2 of 55's...but 22 in one pile is an amazing haul. Not to mention the calandars have signifigant value, I could easily frame and resell each page by itself...though I'm uncertain what I'll do with the collection at this point...it would be difficult for me to part with such a long sought after cache.

Good start for 2K8 treasure hunting for me at least....

Absolutely outstanding! From a much more innocent time!

Congrats on finding those. I can't imagine too many of those surviving!

Those are great, and as a bowhunter I really like the first one, especially with the poem.

Lets face it. The women portrayed in the art are beautiful but not totally uncovered and trashy like in some magazines etc today. That calendar is ONE HAIL of a find and I am glad that you shared it with us DiamondJim ;) ;) ;)

Hey diamondjim, I hope you don't mind but I borrowed your picture of May 1955, I was born that month & year, so I might just make it a wallpaper on my computer. Very cool finds, I love old calendars, they certainly are a reflection of the times, take care, and thanks for the "borrow",

Actually I'm working on high quality scans to make reprint posters availaable through cafepress, the 11 X 17 poster is only $6.49...those interested should PM me. Love cafepress...I don't do any shipping...just upload, they print, ship and gather the money...I get a (small) cut at the end.

This is one of those strange finds that seems to have a life of it's own...turns out a friend of a friend of a friend has BOXES and BOXES of this stuff...everything from cheesecake to hardcore and all made between 1890 (tin types) and 1930. This guy isn't interested in hanging on to the collection so I'm in negoiations to obtain one of the greatest stashes of vintage porn...uh I mean ART... I've ever seen. Let's face it, about 30 seconds after the camera was invented, someone somewhere was naked in front of the lens.

I've got all the 1955's scanned and loaded here:

http://www.cafepress.com/petable/4492159

Not trying to make a shameless plug, just that some have expressed an interest in viewing the entire calandar and I don't have any other web space available at the moment. Still got TONS of work to do on this web page, but the sales functions are fully enabled.

The 1956 doesn't fit on the scanner in one pass, so those are going to take a bit more time...but well worth the wait, far better art than the '55.

Have Fun :-)

Anyone interested in looking at the '56? It's been loaded here...

http://www.cafepress.com/petable/4502946

Had to give up on scanning the entire calandar page...just too long for the machine. But the difference from the '55 is amazing.

I'm hoping the guy will allow me to give the garage a full search later this week...I just have a feeling there's something else there. I've tried detecting the lawn around the garage, but MASSIVE amounts of scrap car parts makes it very tough.
