Day two at a new site that I first hit last night about 7:00. Yesterday gave me 2 coppers and a bunch of buttons. This morning I headed back for a more concentrated search. Three more buttons. Silver gilt Dandy button, Rich gilt one piece button and a military button that I have seen a hundred times before........... Some one please educate me on this one.
I think I have one more copper :help: One side has a bust facing right, the reverse has what looks like an eagle, upright with wings spread. I have no idea what it is, coin, token? Very thin and slightly larger than a US Quarter.
You will notice a 1980 Quarter in the pick. That damn thing came from 6" down, in the best part of the field and had me going for a while :o

Anyway...... Here are some pics. Not too much cleaning yet. I want to ID first if possible.

I can tell you I've been wanting to find one for a freakin long time! ;D

I don't think there's any known history to learn about this particular one so learning about blacksmith tokens in general might be as much as you can do.

Now that this "copper" has been ID'ed I am really wondering what the copper is from yesterday.

Congratulations, Vermont, on the rare copper. :icon_thumleft: I don't understand why you don't dig King George coppers in your area. :dontknow: Vermont is loaded with Colonial history. :icon_scratch: You are digging Dandy buttons, so the Colonials should be there. :icon_scratch:

Keep at the Colonial grind, my friend.

And happy you should be, VP. This site, in just two hunts, has yielded you three coppers (one is a rare Blacksmith copper) and a very nice War of 1812 military button. You are on prime ground for some earlies to be dug! Dig, dig, dig on your next hunts, VP!!

There might be one in there. It sure wouldn't take many years of circulation it make one of those smooth.
