Found last week at an old Navy Base in North Charleston, South Carolina. It contained six silver coins, five pennies and one nickle. Earliest date 1926 on the standing liberty quarter.
The purse was about 8 inches deep. When it popped out my heart almost stopped. I was tempted to try to open it but was afraid I would crack the rubber so I tucked it in my pocket and then found a sterling captains bars and old marine corps cigarette lighter. At home I took some photos and my wife and I slowly removed all twelve coins. If you notice it has a stamped advertisement on the back from a bank in Mississippi.
Very cool find! Nice little cache. Those squeeze-type coin purses were popular as advertising gimmicks in the 1950s. The entire contents and the purse would make an awesome framed display.
outstanding. thats one of those finds that you will never forget, thats something you will remember forever. thanks for the motivation to go looking for mine!
as a side note, a long time ago i also found a plastic change purse like that. it had 2 clad quarters in it, thats what set the detector off. it also had around 80 dollars in cash. It was about 4" down. the paper money was so decomposed that the bank would not cash it in. all bills were dated in the 70's. i still have them someplace.
